Rick Riker, portrayed by Drake Bell, is an outcast at Empire High School. Living with his quirky Uncle Albert, played by Leslie Nielsen, and Aunt Lucille, he leads a mundane life filled with awkwardness and unrequited love for the stunning Jill Johnson, a character brought to life by Sara Paxton. Unfortunately, Jill is oblivious to Rick’s affections while dating the bully Lance Landers, who torments Rick relentlessly.

During a school field trip at an animal research facility, Rick encounters a terminally ill Lou Landers, and things take a strange turn when a mutant dragonfly bites him, leading to bizarre changes. After suffering from intense illness, Rick awakens to discover he has developed superhuman abilities, including wall-crawling and immense strength, though he has one persistent lament: he cannot fly.

As Rick navigates his spiraling life of newfound powers, a science fair gets chaotic with his bizarre physical mishaps, causing quite a scene. After attempting to be a hero by saving an elderly woman from a runaway truck, he inadvertently causes a much worse fate for her, which only adds to his woes. Soon, after confiding in Uncle Albert and his only friend Trey about his powers, Rick faces the terror of a villain named Hourglass, whose tragic transformation becomes a key threat to the world.

Things heat up when he attempts to connect with Jill while battling feelings of inadequacy. After a comical but intense Thanksgiving dinner tragedy leads to Rick putting aside his superhero endeavors, he is drawn back into action when Hourglass plots an evil scheme to extract life energy from innocent people. In a hilariously chaotic award ceremony, Rick learns about Hourglass’s true identity and his nefarious plot to kill thousands.

During an epic rooftop showdown, Rick faces off against Hourglass, balancing his new superhero life with the burgeoning romance with Jill. Their attraction intensifies, culminating in a shared moment of vulnerability and love. Ultimately, Rick embraces his heroism, revealing his true identity to Jill, leading to a passionate kiss that empowers him in ways he never imagined.
