The Invisible Maniac

A psychiatrist informs the mother that Dornwinkle is a genius with the potential for madness, suggesting proper nurturing could keep him on a safe path. The mother reacts by berating him as a sexual deviant and proclaiming that women are evil, a clash of values that traumatizes the boy. This early exchange sets up the dysfunctional dynamic that colors his later actions.

Twenty years later, Dornwinkle stages a demonstration of his invisibility serum before a group of world-renowned scientists. The experiment fails spectacularly and the scientists humiliate him, pushing him to rage. He murders four of them and is later convicted of quadruple homicide, though he is sent to a psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane rather than prison.

After escaping the hospital, Dornwinkle is hired as a substitute high school physics teacher under the alias Dr. Kevin Smith. He begins teaching while keeping his true identity hidden. The new position gives him access to students and a platform for his plans.

The students devise a plan to harass their new teacher, and Dornwinkle overhears. He continues to work on his invisibility serum and eventually achieves real invisibility. The combination of anonymity and power fuels his resolve.

Mrs. Cello, the school's principal, seduces one student and then directly attempts to seduce Dornwinkle. When he rebukes her, she threatens to fire him and call the police. The power struggle accelerates the coming violence.

Pretending to accept her proposition, he instead murders her with a letter opener. The act, along with the serum’s side effects, pushes him further toward a killing spree.

Now invisible, he begins his spree by killing Bubba with a sandwich and Betty with a fire hose. The school trembles as an unseen killer stalks the hallways.

He then kills Joan by drowning her in a fish tank and strangles April. The body count climbs as fear spreads through the campus.

Vicky is killed in the girls’ shower when Dornwinkle throws a radio into the water, electrocuting her, while Gordon waits outside. Gordon discovers Vicky’s body and is chased by the invisible Dornwinkle.

Gordon is killed when Dornwinkle throws him off the school roof during the chase. After having sex in Mrs. Cello’s office, not noticing her dead body, Chet and Bunny discover Vicky’s body in the girls’ locker room and blame the mute janitor Henry for the death.

Chet and Bunny uncover Vicky’s corpse in the locker room and accuse the mute janitor Henry of the crime. The investigation is overshadowed by Dornwinkle’s ongoing invisible rampage. Tension among students and staff reaches a fever pitch.

Dornwinkle attacks Chet and Bunny; Chet’s initial advantage returns visibility briefly, but Dornwinkle overpowers him and kills Bunny by repeatedly jumping on her. Chet engages, and the two collide in a brutal struggle as both remain unseen.

Chet returns with a shotgun, but Dornwinkle injects himself with the invisibility serum and wrests the gun away. Chet finds more serum and injects himself, leaving both men invisible to wage their last stand.

During their climactic fight, a shotgun blast blows a head off, drawing police to the scene. They assume Dornwinkle has committed suicide, but when the serum wears off it’s revealed that the fallen body is Chet’s.

Newscaster Tammy Edwards reports the story of Dornwinkle’s suicide and murder spree. In a final macabre twist, the invisible Dornwinkle strips her naked and laughs hysterically at the camera.
