Two friends on a rooftop turn a simple guessing game about movies into a tense, escalating spectacle. After two rounds—The Shining and Alive—the third round goes off the rails: one participant strips, mimics a monkey, and suddenly falls from the edge, his body shattering onto a car below. The survivor, Juan Martínez, Brays Efe, will carry the memory of what happened as a central thread through everything that follows.

The funeral scene brings together the survivor and the people closest to the deceased. Juan Martínez attends the ceremony for Fernando Borés, portrayed by David Pantaleón, joined by his father and Clara Bruna Cusí, who works for the family. The mood is somber, but the world around them begins to feel increasingly unsettled. After the service, Juan finds himself facing the bill for the funeral, a cold reminder that life’s practicalities keep marching forward even as tragedy lingers.

Back at home, the grief-stricken Juan describes the incident to a pair of police agents, seeking some sense of accountability or explanation. The next day, an insurance representative arrives with a blunt claim: Juan is responsible for damage to the car that the shattered body landed on. In the midst of this upheaval, a woman named Maria Pons [Anna Castillo] posts a reply online, suggesting that she, too, has witnessed something eerily similar, a thread that pulls Juan deeper into a web of shared, uncanny experiences.

Seeking answers, Juan visits Filtro Valencia [Nao Albet], a person tied to the dead man’s circle. After a tense exchange marked by a sexual misunderstanding, Filtro bluntly tells Juan that every possession of David is now registered in Juan’s name, complicating his sense of ownership and blame. The connection between life, death, and property grows murkier as the story widens its scope beyond a single incident.

Juan’s father and Clara go to the DEP offices with other funeral attendees to seek clarity about what happened. There, they learn that the so-called death algorithm is broken and that the same fate—death by piano crushing—could be assigned to many lives, not just the original victim. This revelation unsettles Juan even further and raises questions about who is shaping these events and why.

As a romance blossoms, Juan begins dating Maria. She recounts a troubling story about her stepfather’s “shattering hand,” and the relationship turns intimate. Meanwhile, danger closes in from another direction: two men posing as police, Carlos [Javier Botet] and Roger [Roger Coma], raid Juan’s apartment. A scuffle ensues, and Juan strikes Roger, who immediately shatters into pieces, a stark demonstration of the terrifying power at play in this world.

Desperate, Juan brings the unconscious Carlos to the headquarters of Golem Solutions S.L., where a company official—Carlos’ father [Tito Valverde]—explains that their business centers on crafting companion golems. The revelation shocks Juan further when he learns that David was a golem commissioned by Juan’s own father, a truth that reframes the entire tragedy. The official’s demise soon follows, crushed by piano—a grim reminder of the system at work.

Clara reappears in the story, revealing she is deeply involved with DEP, the entity that orchestrated much of the golem venture’s power. She urges Juan to talk to his father, and the elder reveals a troubling past: he had David created for Juan as a child because he believed his son was a complete duffer. The father’s chilling directive—per the company tradition, Juan must kill him—sets the stage for a brutal climax of loyalties, inheritance, and control.

Seeking control over the sprawling, interwoven stakes, Juan, Clara, and Carlos begin drafting a plan to recreate David and to shape the path of the inheritance. They negotiate a complex arrangement: Juan would grant a majority stake of DEP to Clara, Juan would join Golem Solutions as an associate to Carlos, and Carlos would oversee the construction of another David. The plan moves toward a journey to Zaragoza, where family and corporate ambitions collide once again as the long bloodlines of power threaten to redefine who lives, who dies, and who gets to decide.

The story culminates in a final, fateful sequence during a funeral for Juan’s father, Toni [Luis Tosar]. The gathering underscores the film’s exploration of burden, legacy, and the commodification of life through technology. As the pieces settle into place, the characters confront what it means to be human when the very personhood of a loved one can be replicated or rewritten, and when a family’s history is rebuilt on the fragile ground of golems and greed.
