Three men—David [Jordan Fraser-Trumble], Aaron [Damon Hunter], and Troy [Kevin Dee]—prepare for a weekend that looks ordinary from the outside but spirals into a tense, violent sequence. David stops by a hardware store to stock up with a suspicious assortment of items, as if planning a project that feels off; Aaron carefully loads a rifle and hides it inside camping gear, ensuring it remains concealed from casual eyes; and Troy settles into his home for a weekend of drinking and holiday planning, ease giving way to a growing sense of unease.
They tell their partners they are going fishing and drive to Troy’s house, where they wait for him to walk to a nearby bottle shop before breaking in and staging an ambush when he returns. They kidnap Troy at gunpoint and injections him with ketamine to subdue him, then bind him and dump him in the boot of their vehicle. The journey stretches for hours into a remote regional area, punctuated by close encounters with a man at a service station and a highway patrol officer, each moment ratcheting up the tension.
Arriving at a private property hidden among dense bushland, David and Aaron reveal their brutal plan: they string Troy up, half-naked, to a tree and insist they are the husband and brother of Stephanie [Nicole Pastor], the young woman he allegedly raped and murdered 12 years earlier. The motive is clear—vengeance, sharpened by anger at a prison sentence they deem too light—yet the ethical line between justice and vengeance increasingly unsettles David, who begins to question whether killing Troy is the right path. Aaron remains resolute, arguing that they must see the plan through or risk arrest and accountability.
A harsh, interrogation-driven chapter unfolds as they begin beating Troy with long strips of tongue-and-groove plastic, a brute-force method designed to break him. Troy begs for his life, insisting that he is remorseful and now a changed man, a plea that slowly gnaws at David’s resolve while Aaron pushes for completion of their mission, convinced that any delay will bring exposure and worse consequences.
Brian [Clayton Watson], a neighbor from a nearby property, arrives unexpectedly and asks what they are doing, a development that forces the trio to adjust on the fly. The tension escalates as David and Aaron drug Troy again and hide him in the brush, buying time while Troy regains consciousness and wriggles free into the darkness. When Brian eventually leaves, the two men later locate Troy again, still bound, the original plan now unsettled by mounting doubt and fear.
David pleads for mercy, but Aaron remains adamant—he will not back down. The group leads Troy toward a shallow grave, and as Aaron prepares to shoot, Troy makes a desperate dash into the bush. David and Aaron search the darkness, only to find that Troy has reached Brian’s home on the adjoining property, bringing the danger closer to a broader circle of consequences. With Brian alerted, the two men face a fork in the road: kill Troy or let him go, aware that whichever choice they make will result in unfathomable repercussions for them all.
