The Black Godfather

J.J. and a friend approach a gangster's house on a city street. When the front door opens, a gun jams and a resident fires, killing Tommy. In the alley, J.J. is wounded and collapses, but Nate Williams arrives, tends to his wound, and saves his life, setting J.J.'s harsh entrance into street power in motion.

The next morning, J.J. and Williams talk about survival on the streets. Williams explains why he saved him and begins mentoring him, giving advice and money. This encounter marks the start of J.J.'s ascent in the street world.

After the opening credits, J.J. has grown in power and sells drugs to gain status. He targets Tony Burton, a white gangster trafficking heroin into the black community, and enlists Diablo to help secure the neighborhood against him.

Lieutenant Joe, a crooked cop, enters J.J.'s club and bribes him for money. J.J. says he is willing to go to war with Tony and other exploiters, and asks Joe to relay the plan back to Tony, knowing Joe takes bribes from all sides.

Joe leaves the bar and later stands by Tony at his poolside, explaining that J.J. wants Tony to stay out of the territory and threaten violence if he doesn't. Tony refuses to back down, saying he does not own the territory, he runs it.

Williams and J.J. meet in the club office; Williams warns against pushing Tony too far, while J.J. remains determined. Yvonne is present during the tense exchange, highlighting the personal stakes.

The next morning, Tony visits Nate Williams to press for business as usual and to back off from J.J.'s challenge. Williams stands his ground and warns that further bloodshed could spill over to Tony's side.

J.J., Williams, and a bodyguard discuss how times are changing at the gym; a confrontation between J.J. and the bodyguard occurs, but they part still allied, reinforcing J.J.'s growing reputation and toughness.

Two African American gangsters beat two white gangsters at gunpoint, pat them down, and order them to leave. This display demonstrates the gang's tightening control over the neighborhood and the drug trade.

J.J. and Yvonne sleep together at his place, and in the morning she tends to the routine. She discusses gender expectations, and J.J. admits he loves her but cannot commit at that time.

Diablo and his crew capture a white driver and interrogate him about a shipment near the high school, but the information is limited. They soon escalate their actions, culminating in a raid on another gangster's home to silence rivals as J.J. and his men tighten their grip.

J.J. and Diablo confront Tony in a hospital setting after coordinating around a shipment. In the hospital kitchen, Yvonne seizes a butcher knife and fatally stabs Tony while he is distracted, as J.J. and Diablo close in. The final shot shows Tony dead on the floor, ending the turf war.
