On November 13, 1974, Ronald DeFeo Jr. committed a gruesome massacre, killing his entire family in their home at 412 Ocean Avenue. This horrifying event left a dark legacy that would loom over the house for years to come.

In the autumn of 1975, George and Kathy Lutz, along with Kathy's three children, moved into the infamous house, unaware of its haunting history. They hoped to start anew, blissfully ignorant of the dark secrets that lurked within.

As the Lutz family settles in, they quickly experience a series of unexplained and troubling events. Their once peaceful existence is shattered by strange occurrences that increase in intensity as days pass.

Young Chelsea Lutz forms a mysterious bond with Jodie, one of the deceased DeFeo children. Chelsea's increasingly frightening dreams about Jodie add to the family's growing sense of dread.

One fateful night, the Lutz children are left in the care of babysitter Lisa, who encounters terrifying warnings during her stay. When Billy dares her to enter Jodie's closet, Lisa's fate takes a horrific turn.

Trapped in the closet, Lisa comes face to face with Jodie's vengeful spirit as she pleads for liberation. Moments later, paramedics intervene, and Lisa recounts her horrifying experience to Kathy.

As paranormal events escalate, George Lutz's mental state deteriorates, turning him volatile and aggressive. His fraying sanity culminates in a chilling confrontation with the family dog, Harry, which ends in tragedy.

In a fit of paranoia, George tragically confuses the family dog for a malevolent force and kills Harry. This act horrifies Billy and Chelsea, deepening the rift within the family and heightening the tension in the home.

Desperate for relief, Kathy Lutz turns to Father Callaway for help to cleanse their home of its dark influence. However, when Father Callaway confronts the evil within, he is filled with terror and flees without providing aid.

Unknown to Kathy, the house has ties to Reverend Jeremiah Ketcham, a cruel 17th-century cult leader whose blood-soaked legacy haunts its walls. As George discovers more about Ketcham, he faces the revenant's dark forces.

As George spirals deeper into the malevolent influence of the house, he suffers from hallucinations and strange encounters that push him toward madness. Dark energies begin to consume him as he reenacts Ketcham's tragic demise.

Recognizing the severe change in George and fearing for her children's safety, Kathy decides they must leave the cursed home. Following Father Callaway's warning, she packs up the family in a desperate bid for escape.

As Kathy attempts to flee with the kids, a violent confrontation occurs between her and the possessed George. This encounter forces Kathy to fight back against George's dark side in a frantic attempt to protect her children.

After a harrowing ordeal, George manages to break free from the darkness that had ensnared him. The Lutz family escapes from the cursed place, vacating their home after only 28 days of horrific experiences.

In a chilling epilogue, Jodie's spirit is revealed to linger within the now-abandoned house. Her screams echo throughout the empty rooms, while the mahogany walls twist and shift, hiding the horrors that still exist.
