The Amazing Bulk

Howard is commissioned to develop a powerful serum and hopes to propose to Hannah during a date that begins with a carnival and ends with a late subway ride. Darwin’s conditions loom: the engagement will only be blessed if the serum proves its worth. A mugger robs Howard of his wallet and the engagement ring, and Howard’s attempt to defend himself looks brave but ends in failure. To cover the setback, he fabricates that the mugger took a flash drive containing serum information.

Howard injects himself with the serum and undergoes a dramatic transformation into the purple Bulk. He defeats the mugger and escapes as police arrive on the scene. The evidence of the metamorphosis—purple blood—remains as a clue for later investigators.

The next day, Det. Ray Garton and Det. Lisa Tuttle find Howard’s wallet and spot the Bulk at the crime scene, recognizing the link between the wallet and the monster. They witness the Bulk’s terrifying return to the scene and realize the strange metamorphosis is connected to Howard. The investigation tightens as the profile of the killer comes into focus.

The Bulk unleashes a city-wide rampage, lifting cars and hurling them through the air. One vehicle crashes into Tuttle, crushing her, while Garton fires at the monstrous form. The Bulk destroys a news helicopter before morphing back into Howard, who is arrested by Garton.

Darwin visits the restrained Howard, sedates him, and relocates him to a secret facility where scientists analyze the serum’s effects. Darwin explains that cooperation would grant permission for the marriage and provide an antidote, but only after Howard defeats the rogue scientist Werner von Kantlove. The terms are clear, and the stakes become personal as the mission is laid out.

Howard reverts to the Bulk and goes on a mission to kill Werner von Kantlove and his dim-witted wife. After completing the deed, the Bulk returns to Howard, who then phones Darwin to report success. The alliance between Howard and the project is temporarily renewed by this grim victory.

Darwin reveals there was never a real cure and that Werner funded the project to cure erectile dysfunction. With Howard potent, Darwin plans to use the serum to create a super-human army and orders a military response, including a nuclear strike. Hannah arrives as Darwin delivers the grim news that Howard died saving the world.

Hannah finds Howard alive at her house and he proposes again, which she accepts, though she remains wary of Darwin’s true motives. A glimmer of hope appears that their future together might still be possible, despite the looming danger.

Howard and Darwin clash on a balcony, and the fight ends with Howard’s apparent death. Hannah watches the confrontation and is left to confront Darwin’s duplicity and the fate of the man she loves. The scene plays out as the world’s fate hangs in the balance.

Hannah visits Howard’s grave and leaves a rose, hoping for his return. A drunken Det. Garton staggers to the grave and urinates on it, only for the Bulk to strike his head in retaliation. The moment hints that the Bulk remains a dangerous force, and not all threats have been laid to rest.
