Roy Knable, a plumbing salesman and former fencing athlete, leads a monotonous life filled with television watching. His wife, Helen, feels neglected as they don't engage in any romantic or special activities together.

After a heated argument about their stale relationship, Helen takes drastic action by smashing their family television. This act serves as a wake-up call for Roy to reevaluate his life and priorities.

Following the fight, a mysterious salesman named Mr. Spike visits their home. He offers Roy a high-tech satellite dish with 666 channels, unaware that Spike is an emissary from hell with sinister motives.

Roy and Helen unwittingly activate the satellite dish, which sucks them into Hell Vision. In this terrifying television realm, they must navigate a series of grotesque and ironic challenges to survive.

The couple finds themselves contestants on a twisted game show called 'You Can't Win'. They are forced to confront issues about their failing marriage or face elimination, ultimately managing to survive the ordeal.

After surviving the game show, Roy and Helen are pitted against a stout couple called The Gorgons in the 'Underworld Wrestling Foundation'. Helen showcases her strength by defeating the Gorgons, allowing them to go to the next channel.

Inside the control room of Hell Vision, Spike watches the couple's progress alongside his employee Crowley and rookie Pierce. Crowley provides commentary on the dangers Roy and Helen face in this hellish game.

Roy and Helen's children, Darryl and Diane, become concerned when their parents are missing. They discover the new satellite dish and the bizarre programming, leading them to suspect something is off.

Trapped in a snowy Hell Vision channel, Roy and Helen meet Crowley, who reveals they only have 15 hours left to survive. They are soon attacked by savage wolves, forcing them to seek shelter.

After escaping a burning shack, Roy and Helen find themselves transformed into animated mouse characters. They must battle a mechanical cat, showcasing their resilience in the face of adversity.

Roy discovers his former neighbor Murray, now a nightclub owner in the Hell Vision universe. In a chaotic encounter with gangsters, Murray sacrifically hands Roy a remote control to aid their escape.

Having lost the remote, Roy and Helen find themselves in 18th Century France during the Revolution. Captured by soldiers, they must rely on Crowley for assistance as they face execution.

As the countdown to their survival ends, Darryl and Diane work diligently to hack the cable system and help their parents escape execution. Their intervention stalls the beheading just in time.

Spike attempts to eliminate Roy by capturing Helen, leading to a high-stakes chase across various Hell Vision shows. Roy uses the remote control to save her from danger and thwart Spike's plan.

In the aftermath of the harrowing experience, Roy returns to the real world with newfound priorities. He significantly reduces his TV watching and starts a new chapter as a fencing teacher.
