In Times Square, Eva Lovelace arrives at Lewis Easton's office with the ambition to become a Broadway actress. Hedges introduces Eva to Lewis and Joe Sheridan, and Eva reveals her real name, Gertrude Langerfelder, hoping the change will give her confidence. This meeting sets Eva on a path toward auditions and the world of theatre.

In Joe's office, Rita Vernon is offered a smaller role while hoping to star in Joe's latest play. Robert Harley Hedges signs a new contract and encourages Eva to audition at the Actors Studio. The scene plants the idea that Eva should pursue opportunities beyond the current production.
