Kitty Lorraine devotes her entire life to making her daughter Shirley a star, caring for nothing else. She manipulates every aspect of the girl's fledgling stage career, even blackmailing a stage manager for a bigger gig. When Kitty sabotages Shirley’s romance with the kind‑hearted artist Warren Foster, the hurt daughter turns to a series of ill‑fated but lucrative liaisons.
