In the wake of the tragic events of 9/11, a Syrian cab driver named Ashade navigates through the colorful streets of New York City, transporting a variety of passengers across its vibrant neighborhoods. One significant night, Ashade’s routine is disrupted when he picks up Phoebe, a charming producer for Q-Dog, a network famous for producing provocative reality TV shows like Sorry, Haters. As they engage in conversation—discussing topics ranging from traffic woes to their favorite music—it becomes evident that Phoebe is battling some deep-seated issues, her anxiety visibly manifesting as she requests Ashade to drive her to suburban New Jersey.

Upon their arrival, the facade crumbles, unveiling Phoebe’s real objective: she is intent on confronting her ex-husband and his new family, driven by a tumult of emotions. In a fit of anger and sorrow, she vandalizes his car before they head back to Manhattan together. During this journey back, Phoebe begins to pry into Ashade’s life, discovering the trials he faces as an immigrant in America. Once a promising Ph.D. student in chemistry who fled from Syria, Ashade now finds himself grappling with legal challenges stemming from his brother’s unjust detention at Guantánamo Bay, where he languishes as a Canadian citizen without justification.

Phoebe, moved by Ashade’s plight, offers her assistance in securing a reputable lawyer to help navigate his troubles. However, as their bond grows more intricate, Phoebe’s true character emerges, unraveling a tangled web of hidden motives that ultimately compel Ashade to reassess their relationship. Despite Ashade’s attempts to create distance, Phoebe relentlessly pursues her agenda, wielding her industry influence to take retaliatory actions that threaten the unsuspecting cab driver’s fragile existence. As Ashade strives to reclaim control over his life, he must once again confront Phoebe and delve into the murky secrets she has been concealing right before his eyes.
