In a world where sneakers come to life, Edson, Swae Lee, a talented high school basketball player, wins an exclusive pair of shoes named Ty and Maxine—a pair that is as much a personality as it is a pair of kitted-out kicks. Ty, Anthony Mackie, is the careful, pristine one who would rather stay tucked away in the shoebox, while Maxine, Chloe Bailey, is bold and eager to hit the court. From the moment they’re claimed, the duo sparks a mix of pride and pressure that foreshadows a bigger plan behind their gleam.

But their ownership draws the eye of danger. The Collector, Laurence Fishburne, a famous and ruthless sneaker curator, breaks into Edson’s home and makes off with Ty and Maxine. In the chaos of the escape, Ty slips from the shoebox and lands on a wire, alerting the world to his cry for help and setting off a chain of events that will test loyalty and courage.

Enter JB, an old and abandoned sneaker brought to life by need and memory, Martin Lawrence, who decides to stand up for Ty. He recognizes the value and vulnerability of a luxury sneaker and joins the quest to recover the pair before they’re folded into something darker. The Collector, meanwhile, is pressed by his employer, the Forger, Roddy Ricch—a shadowy craftsman who creates counterfeit shoes and plans to repurpose Ty and Maxine for a larger operation. Realizing Ty is missing, the Collector begs for more time and sets out to track him down.

Their journey unfolds across the city as Ty and JB reconnect with old networks and friends. They show their skills on a basketball court, trading plays for clues about Maxine’s whereabouts. The trail then leads to Adriana, Macy Gray, a high-heeled artist who also happens to be JB’s ex-girlfriend, holding the next thread of the map at a lively wedding party. Adriana points them toward a bowling alley, and when the group arrives, chaos erupts as the Collector crashes the party. In the heat of the chase, Ty makes a startling choice and abandons JB, who discovers that his help was tied to something much more personal and painful.

As this betrayal unfolds, JB stumbles upon the moribund shoe—half-cut and left to fade—that reveals the Forger’s brutal method and the truth behind his operation. Desperate to save his friend, JB sacrifices himself and takes Ty’s place, sparing Ty from a grim fate. The Collector closes in at the bowling alley, but the Forger arrives first and seizes Maxine, believing the deal with the Collector is still in play. The tension peaks as the bowling-pin of information and history crashes down: the Forger exposes the Collector’s true identity, revealing that he was the very basketball player JB once forced to lose a game.

In a dramatic turn, Maxine and the rest of the Collector’s shoes spring to action, binding the Forger to a chair and halting his scheme. Ty and Maxine are finally reunited, along with JB and his long-lost pair Spike, Quavo. The night ends with a sense of reconciliation and resolve, as the Collector decides to return Ty and Maxine to Edson so that he can play the game he loves the right way—on the court, with his true partners by his side.

Together, the unlikely alliance of a gifted player, a loyal old sneaker, and a cast of living shoes navigates themes of loyalty, identity, and the price of excellence.
