On the rooftop of a Barcelona building, Cesar, the concierge, expresses his ongoing struggle with finding happiness despite his surroundings. He reflects on his life and the good things he has, yet feels profoundly empty.

Cesar wakes up in Clara's apartment and starts his day at work in the main lobby. His interactions with Ursula, a tenant's daughter, lead to a troubling exchange involving hush money.

Cesar visits his mother in the hospital, where she is gravely ill and unable to speak. He talks about Clara, revealing his complex feelings about his relationships and underlying motivations.

Veronica, another tenant, asks Cesar to care for her dogs, providing detailed instructions. Cesar disregards these directions and feeds Rocio a slice of pie, setting off a series of unfortunate events.

Clara returns to the apartment, bringing her boyfriend Marcos along. Cesar, hiding under the bed, worries as Marcos discovers suspicious items and begins piecing together the odd occurrences.

After accidentally getting chloroform on himself, Cesar tries to escape but is trapped by the wrong keys. The chaos heightens as Marcos confronts him about his odd behavior.

Tensions culminate when a confrontation escalates into violence. In a moment of panic, Cesar stabs Marcos, a decision that seals his dark fate and sets him further into a spiral of anxiety.

Knowing Ursula saw him during the incident, Cesar threatens her to keep quiet about what she knows. His desperation leads him to further isolation and moral decline.

After Clara moves away and has her baby, Cesar sends her a letter. In it, he expresses his twisted gratitude for her influence on his life, revealing his warped sense of happiness and closure.
