‘Shorts’ unfolds in the seemingly ordinary suburb of Black Falls, where cookie-cutter houses line the streets and every resident is employed by BLACK BOX Unlimited Worldwide Industries Incorporated. Their prized invention, Mr. Black’s BLACK BOX, is hailed as the ultimate gadget that can handle just about anything. However, 11-year-old Toe Thompson, portrayed by Jimmy Bennett, feels like he’s getting nothing from it except the same old routine and persistent bullies.

His life takes a wild twist when a mysterious rainbow-colored rock falls from the sky, striking him on the head and changing his fate forever. Unlike Mr. Black’s BLACK BOX, this Rainbow Rock possesses the astonishing ability to grant wishes.
