In this captivating narrative, three families come together at a sunny Cornish beach, where siblings Ros and Robbie are joyfully reunited with their father David, his girlfriend Alice, and Alice’s daughters Samantha and Maudie, who have just flown in from America. At first, the children are at odds with each other, struggling with their animosity. However, everything changes when they unexpectedly stumble upon a mysterious magical creature known as the Psammead or Sand Fairy. This enchanting being possesses the ability to grant one wish each day, but those wishes vanish with the setting sun.

As the children’s whims take them on exhilarating adventures, they find themselves whisked away 100 years into the past, where they encounter the dignified yet demanding Tristan Trent. In a tense moment, Ros finds herself at gunpoint, with the aristocrat wanting to uncover the secrets of the Sand Fairy. But, with clever teamwork, Samantha, Robbie, and Maudie cleverly use the Psammead’s magic to save their sibling from danger.

Determined to make their dreams last forever, the children embark on yet another time-traveling adventure. But just as they think they have found a way, their plans are foiled, forcing them to return to the present. Here, they encounter a new challenge from Tristan Trent III, who has sinister designs on the Sand Fairy. With their combined wits, the resourceful siblings manage to outsmart the villain, ultimately trapping him on the beach with the aid of the Psammead.

As their adventures unfold, the bonds between the children deepen, transforming their initial hostility into genuine affection. In a heartwarming finale, Ros, Robbie, Samantha, and Maudie make the heartfelt decision to keep Psammead in their care, hiding him away from their parents in the family bathroom, cherishing their new-found friendship and the magic of their shared experiences.
