Tao Hing, under the strict guardianship of the Shaolin order, treads a path of guarded secrecy and disciplined training. He discovers the Yijin Jing kung fu technique, a mighty and coveted art that could tilt the balance of power, yet he is also naïve about who he truly is and where he belongs. His progress is tested by a traitorous monk, Dao Kong, who secretly serves the 9th Prince and constantly tries to outmatch Tao Hing in confrontations that reveal the monk’s duplicity. Meanwhile, Wong Szu Tai grows up with the Prime Minister and Gu Long by his side, keenly aware that a dangerous plot threads through the halls of power. He senses the existence of a brother and the treachery brewing behind the scenes, though the two brothers remain unknowable to one another.

A pivotal moment arrives when a botched exorcism — orchestrated by the duplicitous Dao Kong — leaves Tao Hing to fend for himself while Wong Szu Tai happens to be passing by and is drawn into the crisis. The two youths forge an unlikely alliance, and Tao Hing offers to escort Wong Szu Tai to Shaolin, where the legendary Yijin Jing manual resides. Their arrival triggers resistance from the Shaolin monks, who set a series of tests designed to prove Wong Szu Tai’s worthiness to read the precious manual. Dao Kong is once again thwarted by Tao Hing’s determination, and the unlikely duo grows closer as they confront corruption within the temple walls. Together they uncover the deceit of the monks, pass the grueling trials of the 18 Buddhas, and, with the intervention of the 3 Holy Fools, gain access to the long‑sought Yijin Jing.

The story shifts toward a tense confrontation when the 9th Prince and Dao Kong converge on an inn to intercept Tao Hing and Wong Szu Tai. Dao Kong meets his end at the hands of Tao Hing, who saves his companion and continues toward the ultimate goal: ending the puppet rule and freeing the rightful Emperor from manipulation. Yet Tao Hing’s compassion leads him to a revealing moment: the “emperor” who appears to govern in name is, in fact, a good man being exploited by the Prince. This discovery strains the brothers’ alliance; Wong Szu Tai presses forward with resolve, while Tao Hing must choose between loyalty and a clearer sense of justice. The tension culminates in a dramatic clash when Wong Szu Tai is momentarily overwhelmed by the powers Tao Hing wields through the Yijin Jing.

After a fierce exchange with Fire Man and Water Man, Tao Hing arrives to help mend the breach between the brothers, and the pair reconcile. They return to the Prime Minister’s house, only to find it a ruin — all are dead save for the Prime Minister and Gu Long. In a poignant moment, Tao Hing kneels to support Gu Long and accidentally drops the royal seal, which Gu Long reads as a sign of the rightful heir. His dying breath carries the whispered line, “we found him,” confirming that Tao Hing and Wong Szu Tai are brothers. This revelation compels them to return to Shaolin to confront the 9th Prince once more. In the final confrontation, the forces of truth prevail: the 9th Prince is defeated, Wong Szu Tai reclaims his rightful lineage, and Tao Hing becomes a senior monk at Shaolin, joining the 3 Holy Fools in a life of quiet service and disciplined wisdom.
