Set It Off

Frankie is fired from her job following a neighborhood bank robbery because a robber is identified from her area. Detective Strode uses the incident to insinuate she was involved, starting a formal investigation. The mounting suspicion pushes Frankie toward making changes with her friends.

Frankie and her three best friends take low-paid janitorial jobs at Luther's Janitorial Services. Luther treats them with disrespect and pays them poorly, fueling resentment. The new routine keeps them in the same circle and sets the stage for future plans.

Facing mistreatment, Frankie proposes a bank robbery to her friends. Cleo agrees, but Stony and T.T. hesitate. Their discussion plants the seed for a crime that will redefine their lives.

Stevie, Stony’s brother, is shot by police after a mistaken identity. At the same time, T.T.'s son is taken by Child Protective Services after being poisoned at work. These events galvanize the group and push them to join the robbery.

In light of the tragedies, T.T. and Stony decide to join the robbery, moving from hesitant to active participants. Frankie, Cleo, and the others now have a four-woman crew ready to act.

While casing a bank with T.T., Stony develops a romantic connection with Keith Weston, the bank’s manager. The relationship adds a personal edge to the looming crime and complicates the crew’s dynamic.

The four women begin a series of bank robberies, leveraging Frankie’s insider knowledge of bank procedures. They pull off several raids with growing confidence, and law enforcement struggles to connect the dots.

An LAPD investigation is launched. Detective Strode suspects Cleo for prior convictions, Frankie for the earlier firing and connection to the case, and Stony for her brother’s death, but he lacks enough concrete evidence to arrest anyone.

For safety, the crew stashes their loot in an air vent at one work site. They soon learn there is a new boss overseeing their janitorial work, and they realize Luther has discovered the loot and fled with it.

The crew discovers Luther has become a liability and the money’s fate is in jeopardy; T.T. shoots him dead when he threatens them. Cleo is questioned by Strode but uses intimidation to avoid identification. Stony grows disillusioned with her partners.

The four plan one final robbery to secure their future and protect Keith’s safety. Stony asks Keith to meet at a cafe on the far side of town to avoid revealing their criminal plans.

They execute the Downtown Federal Bank heist, stealing more money than anticipated. Detective Strode and his partner arrive on the scene and demand surrender, escalating the danger.

A bank guard mortally wounds T.T. from behind, and Stony returns fire to cover their escape. T.T dies in Stony’s arms as they flee, and Cleo attempts to elude capture in the ensuing chaos.

Cleo leads a high-speed chase, is cornered, and dies in a police shootout after crashing through a barricade. Ursula, her partner, mourns the loss as she watches the chase on television.

Detective Strode locates Frankie and orders surrender. Frankie defies him, but Strode’s men shoot her in the back, ending her involvement in the spree. Stony watches Frankie’s death from a passing charter bus.

Stony, now hiding among a tourist group, escapes to Mexico while mourning her friends. She calls Keith to reassure him she’s safe, and a smile crosses his face as he realizes she’s leaving the city behind.

In Mexico, Stony cuts her hair, mourns the losses, and contemplates her future. She drives off with half the money from the spree, signaling a fresh start amid the memories of those she left behind.
