The film opens with the city on edge as the police close in on Vishal S. Agnihotri, accused of murdering four prominent figures. In a high-stakes gambit, Vishal negotiates a deal with a powerful lawyer to win his freedom for Rs 100 million, hoping to overturn the case by presenting tainted witnesses. The lawyer, Ashok Pradhan, agrees to manipulate the verdict. A special appearance by Manisha Koirala adds a tense, melodic moment in the film’s set piece song.
Just as the judge seems ready to rule, Vishal shoots the lawyer and openly admits his guilt, sending shockwaves through the media. An inquiry committee is formed to explore the other side of the story, while Vishal appears before them and the film slides into a vivid flashback that traces the events leading to this moment.
In Kandivali, an honest schoolteacher named Sachidanand Agnihotri has long faced trouble because of his integrity, first with Poornima School and then in a Government school. He ultimately agrees to testify about the sexual assault and murder of a young woman from Worli, placing himself at odds with the powerful Rana family. The story follows the tension within Sachidanand’s home as his wife, Gayetri S. Agnihotri, and their son Vishal stand by him, even as Vishal forms a budding bond with Neha G. Rao.
The investigation leads to the arrest of Nagesh, the son of the formidable Jaspal Rana, triggering a campaign of police intimidation led by a corrupt ACP Kamble. Sachidanand’s resolve strains under pressure, and the day of the testimony becomes a nightmare when Nagesh’s lawyer, Ashok Pradhan, employs tactics that sow doubt and push Sachidanand toward despair, eventually driving him to take his own life.
Meanwhile, Vishal, then imprisoned for assaulting several police officers, stages a dramatic breakout, abducts Nagesh, and turns his sights on those who betrayed the truth. He eliminates Ashok Pradhan, and when Kamble arrives to rescue Nagesh, Vishal makes quick work of them as well. The pursuit culminates in Vishal’s confrontation with Jaspal Rana, whom he ultimately kills.
Returning to the present, the court renders a sweeping sentence of four years to life for Vishal. He speaks to the judge with a warning about the dangers of appointing men like Jaspal Rana to ministerial posts, suggesting that only then would people like him be forced to take the law into their own hands.
