Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam

Laborers tear down the ruins of an old haveli in Calcutta while the overseer walks the site. As he sits to inspect the work, the scene slides into a flashback to late 19th century.

Atulya 'Bhoothnath' Chakraborty comes to Calcutta seeking work and moves into the haveli owned by the Choudhury zamindars with his brother-in-law. He meets Subinay, a Brahmo Samaj follower and Mohini Sindoor owner, while Jabba observes him and finds his rural ways amusing.

He grows fascinated by the decadence inside the haveli and starts observing the Choudhury brothers’ lifestyle every night. His curiosity pulls him deeper into the household’s secretive world.

Bansi introduces Bhoothnath to Chhoti Bahu, the younger zamindar’s wife, who pleads for Mohini sindoor to heal her ailing marriage. He becomes her secret confidant as she confides in him about her misery.

Chhoti Bahu’s attempts to win back her husband fail, so she begins drinking with Bhoothnath to keep him nearby. Their bond deepens as she relies on him for solace.

Subinay’s illness forces him to shut down the factory, and he arranges Jabba’s marriage to Supavitra, a fellow Brahmo Samaj member. Hearing this, Bhoothnath decides to leave the haveli.

Bhoothnath returns months later to check on Subinay’s health and discovers that Subinay has died. The news unsettles the haveli as changes ripple through the family.

After Subinay’s death, Jabba breaks her engagement to Supavitra. Bhoothnath learns that he and Jabba were betrothed as children, deepening the sense that their fates are tightly linked.

Back at the haveli, the mansion has fallen on hard times. Chhoti Bahu is an alcoholic and her husband is paralyzed, while Majhle Babu suspects an affair between Chhoti Bahu and Bhoothnath.

One night, Chhoti Bahu begs Bhoothnath to accompany her to a shrine. Majhle Babu sends henchmen to chase them; the carriage is halted and Bhoothnath is knocked unconscious while Chhoti Bahu is abducted.

Bhoothnath wakes up in a hospital to learn that Chhoti Bahu has disappeared and her husband is dead. Bansi reveals the grim turn of events that followed.

The flashback ends as workers report a skeleton in the haveli ruins. The jewellery on the corpse leads Bhoothnath to realize it is Chhoti Bahu.

In the last scene, a nostalgic Bhoothnath rides away in a carriage with Jabba, who is now his wife. The moment frames the long arc from loss in the past to a quiet, settled ending.
