Colonel Kim Jin-pyeong [Song Seung-heon] is a decorated war hero standing on the verge of a general’s promotion, a milestone thatTriangles with the weight of family politics and old rivalries. His life of outward success is underscored by the disapproval of a commanding father-in-law and a wife, Lee Sook-jin [Cho Yeo-jeong], who is pregnant, signaling a future built on appearances as much as affection. Yet beneath the surface, Jin-pyeong’s long-quieted emotions for his wife have waned, and the memories of the Vietnam War haunt him with relentless nightmares about the soldiers under his command. The shadow of PTSD colors every decision, every memory, and every breath he takes.

Captain Kyung Woo-jin [On Ju-wan] is transferred into Jin-pyeong’s unit and moves in next door with his wife Ga-heun [Lim Ji-yeon], whose presence disrupts the uneasy balance of Jin-pyeong’s life. From the moment Ga-heun arrives, Jin-pyeong feels a pull that is unfamiliar and disconcerting—an involuntary awakening of longing that he cannot easily name or accept. This intrusion into his orderly world becomes the spark for a conflict between duty and desire, a chasm he never anticipated crossing.

A turning point comes at an event hosted by the wives of commissioned officers at an army hospital. A patient suffering from PTSD launches a brutal attack, targeting Ga-heun. Jin-pyeong does not hesitate—he throws himself between the attacker and Ga-heun, saving her life even as she is wounded and rushed into the hospital. The act cements a bond that Ga-heun begins to feel return toward him with compassion and warmth, a subtle shift from fear to trust. As Ga-heun recovers, her regard for Jin-pyeong deepens, and their conversations move from guarded courtesy to honest, shared memories. Their bond grows in secrecy, a dangerous and fragile thing that neither of them fully understands or can easily justify.

The relationship is complicated further by the tug-of-war of loyalties. Ga-heun’s guilt, rooted in her sense of family obligation after her mother falls ill, draws a line between her and Jin-pyeong, and she finds herself pulled back toward the anchored life she had before. The weight of that choice presses on Jin-pyeong as well, who struggles to reconcile his intense feelings with a reality that includes his wife and the expectations of his role within the military community. In a bid to reclaim some sense of control, Jin-pyeong resorts to a desperate plan to tarnish Woo-jin’s name—an attempt to remove the obstacle to his own happiness—but the ploy fails, leaving him battered by his own actions and exposed to the consequences of his breach of trust.

Despite the turmoil, Jin-pyeong’s ascent continues, and a formal celebration marks his promotion to general. Ga-heun and Woo-jin attend the event, and Jin-pyeong, surrounded by congratulations, cannot help but search the room for Ga-heun’s presence. The moment is overshadowed by the revelation that his wife is pregnant, a detail that underscores the complexity of his emotions—between the life he has within the base and the life he longs for with Ga-heun. The intensity of his internal conflict reaches a fever pitch, and in a moment of raw vulnerability, he confronts the impossibility of balancing love, duty, and the expectations placed upon him.

When the father-in-law’s anger intensifies, Jin-pyeong is told to return to Vietnam, a decision that devastates him. He pleads with Ga-heun, offering to relinquish his army career if that could save their bond, but her response makes it clear that she cannot choose a life that would require sacrificing her own. The rejection shatters him, and he descends into despair, attempting to take his own life before eventually leaving the base for Vietnam.

Two years pass. At an official party, a group of Vietnam’s Special Unit men approach Ga-heun with news that Jin-pyeong died on the battlefield while guiding them. They present a final memento—a polaroid photograph of Jin-pyeong and Ga-heun dancing together. In his last moments, Jin-pyeong reaches for the image, and the back of the photograph bears a simple, poignant inscription: “My Love.” Ga-heun is overcome with grief as the film closes on Jin-pyeong, seen lifeless on a helicopter, a complicated love story that lingers long after the credits.
