Tony, known as 'le Stéphanois', is released after serving a five-year prison sentence for a jewel heist. He is down on his luck, indicating his struggle to reintegrate into normal life and find stability after his incarceration.

Tony's friend Jo contacts him with a proposal for a smash-and-grab heist targeting a Parisian jeweler's storefront. Tony declines the risky plan initially, signaling his reluctance to re-enter criminal activity at this stage.

Tony finds out that his former girlfriend Mado has moved on and is now involved with gangster Pierre Grutter. This discovery fuels Tony’s emotional turmoil and sense of betrayal as he witnesses her working at Grutter's club.

Tony confronts Mado at Grutter's club, bringing her back to his rundown flat. He is then assaulted with suspicion and anger, brutally beating her for her involvement with Grutter, emphasizing his emotional vulnerability and sense of loss.

Despite initial reluctance, Tony agrees to participate in a more ambitious heist targeting a jeweler's safe, driven by a desire for greater loot and possibly revenge. The group begins planning the complex break-in with the help of safecracker César.

The criminals chiseling into the cement ceiling of the jewelry store at night to gain access. They rehearse their plan, focusing on disabling the alarm system, demonstrating careful planning and coordination for their heist.

During the break-in, the team successfully enters the store and escapes without leaving clues. Unbeknownst to them, César secretly pockets a diamond ring as a gift for his lover Viviane, which introduces the first hint of internal betrayal.

The heist makes headline news, and the gang begins efforts to fence the stolen jewels through a contact in London. Meanwhile, Grutter learns about Mado and ends his relationship with her due to her injuries and involvement with Tony.

Infuriated by Tony's interference and the theft, Grutter gives heroin to his brother Rémy and orders him to murder Tony. The situation escalates as Grutter's criminal empire retaliates against those involved.

Louis, Grutter's brother, reveals the stolen jewels that César had given to Viviane, exposing César, Mario, and Tony as responsible for the theft. César is forced to confess under pressure, intensifying tensions within the group.

Tony confronts César, who admits to squealing on the gang. Faithful to their code, Tony sorrowfully kills César before he can be apprehended by the police, highlighting the code of loyalty among criminals.

Grutter's thugs kidnap Jo’s five-year-old son, Tonio, holding him for ransom. The kidnapping ratchets up the stakes, prompting Tony to plan a daring rescue to save the child from further danger.

Tony, with Mado's help, locates Tonio at Grutter's country house. He rescues the boy and kills Rémy and Louis in the process, avenging their violence while saving the child. They then head back to Paris with Tonio safe.

Jo, under pressure from Grutter, goes to meet him with the ransom money. Grutter, however, kills Jo after uncovering Tony’s theft of the jewels, which he had already stolen and hidden. Tony, witnessing this, is mortally wounded.

Tony fights Grutter in a shootout, killing him as he tries to escape with the loot. Severely wounded, Tony drives erratically back to Paris, successfully delivering Tonio home before succumbing to his injuries, as police arrive on the scene.
