The story begins with the mysterious disappearance of Edna, the elderly matriarch. Her absence prompts her daughter, Kay, and granddaughter, Sam, to travel to their family home to search for her.

Upon arriving at the secluded family home, Kay and Sam find the house locked from the inside. They also discover peculiar black mould creeping across the walls and numerous Post-it notes left by Edna, indicating her declining mental state.

As night falls, Sam meets their young neighbor, Jamie, who reveals he hasn't visited Edna due to his father's warnings about the house. This conversation introduces an eerie atmosphere, as strange sounds echo in the house, raising their fear.

Kay is plagued by a disturbing dream featuring a decaying corpse in an old forest shack. The dream leaves her unsettled, reflecting the tension building around Edna's disappearance and the mysterious mould in the house.

The next morning, Edna mysteriously reappears, muddy and barefoot. After being assessed by a doctor, it is confirmed that she retains most of her mental faculties despite exhibiting disturbing signs of physical neglect.

Kay expresses her intention to transfer Edna to a retirement home, believing her neglect is too severe to manage. This news distresses Sam, who fears losing her grandmother and grapples with the decision.

That night, Kay finds Edna sleepwalking towards the front door, muttering the ominous phrase, 'It's nothing.' Despite Kay's worries, Edna believes there is a hidden threat in the home, leading to mounting tension.

The following day, Edna accuses Sam of stealing a ring she had gifted her. This alarming confrontation is overshadowed by a lurking black figure, illustrating Edna's deteriorating mental state and the family's tension.

Kay is horrified to catch Edna tearing apart the family photo album, claiming she needs to bury it for safety. When Kay intervenes, Edna violently bites her hand, showcasing the deep-seated chaos within Edna's mind.

As Edna's condition worsens, Kay finds disturbing signs of neglect, including black urine and scratch marks on her decaying flesh. The family's situation grows increasingly dire as Sam becomes lost in the house's hidden passages.

In a brief moment of clarity, Edna gestures to a note stating 'I AM LOVED' before succumbing to her condition. Kay aids her mother in shedding the remnants of her appearance, revealing the horror of her final state.

As Edna passes away, Kay and Sam lie beside her in a poignant moment, blending love with horror. They confront the overwhelming reality of Edna's tragic fate, which forever alters their understanding of family and memory.
