Following the death of his first wife, Raja Rathnam Pillai marries Muthu Lakshmi so Selvam has a mother figure. Muthu Lakshmi already has a son, whom she names Muthu, which ties the families together. The wedding marks a new chapter for the village and the household in Southern Kerala.
