Bhaskaran, a local village goldsmith, is secretly in love with Snehalatha, the daughter of the astrologer Panicker. Panicker dreams of a wealthy groom from the Persian Gulf and discourages any romance that doesn't align with his plan. The tension between love and social expectation sets the stage for the conflict to come.

Snehalatha asks for a necklace as a symbol of Bhaskaran's love and to impress her father. Bhaskaran crafts a ten-sovereign gold necklace and presents it to Snehalatha. The gift becomes the central catalyst for later misgivings when Panicker realizes its significance.

Panicker returns home, pockets the necklace, and proclaims that Bhaskaran gave it to Snehalatha as a token of 'brotherly love' rather than romantic affection. He admonishes Snehalatha for the perceived transgression and orders the necklace kept. Bhaskaran's gesture now appears as something suspect to the village.

Panicker receives a marriage proposal for Snehalatha from Pavithran, an orphan working in Qatar, and accepts it, hoping to secure her future. The arrangement sets up conflict with Bhaskaran, whose love is still unacknowledged. The town awaits the impending wedding.

At the tea shop, Panicker publicly displays a golden necklace and claims he bought it for his daughter. The crowd applauds this gesture as an example of 'fatherly love,' while Bhaskaran realizes the necklace on display is the same one he gave Snehalatha.

Fueled by pride and jealousy, Bhaskaran marches to Panicker's home with his friends and well-wishers to press Snehalatha to marry him. Snehalatha denies any romance with Bhaskaran, while Panicker refuses to return the necklace and argues it was never from Bhaskaran. The confrontation becomes a public spectacle in the village.

The public dispute turns Bhaskaran into the joke of the village, with locals gossiping about the necklace and his stubborn love. His reputation as a serious suitor is questioned, and the dynamics of village life grow tense. Despite this, Bhaskaran clings to his feelings and dignity.

Parvathy Teacher begins teaching classical dance on the second floor of Aboobacker's dilapidated tea shop, challenging the shop's space and gender norms. Aboobacker and Pappi clash over the dance's impact on business, while Madhavan Nair maintains his nocturnal visits to Devayani. Velichappadu organizes the temple festival, and Bhaskaran, supported by Hajiyar and friends, starts his own jewelry shop in the village.

Pavithran marries Snehalatha and returns to the Middle East; Snehalatha is pregnant, and a baby girl is born. Pavithran soon returns, revealing that he intends to stay in Kerala, buy trucks, and settle down, while admitting his past troubles abroad, including time spent in jail.

Pavithran invites Bhaskaran to pierce the baby's ears, but Snehalatha and Panicker publicly insult Bhaskaran's skill, suggesting it could harm the baby. Bhaskaran overhears the humiliation and leaves in sorrow, reflecting that a goldsmith bears the pain when a child suffers.

Parvathy Teacher approaches Bhaskaran for financial help to treat her father; Bhaskaran, lacking funds, arranges support from Hajiyar. Parvathy promises not to forget his generosity, while Bhaskaran laments his past actions and vows to change his ways.

Pavithran needs more funds to finance his truck; Snehalatha notices the necklace’s value and how she has worn it as a symbol of ten sovereigns. Pavithran decides to pawn the necklace to raise cash, promising to replace it with a new chain later.

Pavithran consults Bhaskaran about the necklace and whether Panicker gave it as a gift. Bhaskaran confirms the necklace’s authenticity as being from Bhaskaran years earlier, and not as a Gulf gift. The public revelation ignites fresh humiliation for Pavithran and rekindles tension in Panicker’s house.

A heated fight erupts, interrupted when Hajiyar's wife Khalmayi arrives and calms the crowd. Bhaskaran explains the copper-to-gold trick he learned from his father, restoring some dignity. In the end, Pavithran decides to reclaim Snehalatha and their daughter, while Bhaskaran finds a new love in Parvathy, who is celebrated as the real gold.
