Ladies Tailor

In a quiet rural village, a talented yet lazy tailor named Sundaram dreams of climbing into wealth, swayed more by luck than by steady work. He ignores the repeated urging of his devoted student Sitaramudu and his friend Battala Satyam, who run a cloth shop and keep nudging him toward real effort. A Koyadora arrives with a prophecy that Sundaram’s luck could crown him king when he stitches a garment for a woman who bears a distinctive mole on her right thigh. He shares this strange omen with his friends, who grow uneasy about the looming influence of the fierce chieftain Venkata Ratnam, a man who won’t hesitate to exploit or harm women. Out of fear, they decide to watch over Sundaram through his confidant Seenu, hoping to curb any reckless behavior before trouble find him.

Sundaram’s bold entry into the world of business comes when he sews a blouse for Sundari, the volatile sister of Venkata Ratnam, a move that quickly pulls him into a web of flirtations and arranged fates. He teases that three girls—Nagamani, Neelaveni, and Daiya—are vying for his attention and swearing to marry him, a boast that only heightens the village’s interest and sets the stage for a complicated test of loyalty. Seenu senses Sundaram’s pattern early, yet the tailor persists in chasing the puzzle, racing against time while missteps pile up and suspicions mount. A chance sighting of a mole on a newly deployed schoolteacher, Sujatha, shifts his obsession from gossip to a real possibility of happiness.

Meanwhile, Venkata Ratnam tolerates no misstep and leverages Sundaram’s friends by offering bribes to handle Seenu, intensifying the pressure on Sundaram. He resumes his pursuit with Sujatha, and there is a genuine reciprocation between them—she returns his feelings, and he grows fond of her in earnest. Yet the village’s three contenders begin to coalesce around a common plan, complicating Sundaram’s ambitions. Sujatha, meanwhile, is undergoing training and contends with Sundaram’s increasingly risky scheme to walk away with her. In a dramatic turn, Sundari becomes pregnant, and suspicion falls on Sundaram as the crowd closes in—villagers, rivals, and former allies all close in around him.

Just as Venkata Ratnam readies a final strike, Sujatha reveals the truth about the real killer, unmasking Sitaramudu and turning the tide. Enraged, Venkata Ratnam erupts, but Sujatha manages to restrain him and condemns Sundaram’s folly—his mistreatment of women and his reckless schemes. Overcome with remorse, Sundaram pleads for forgiveness and chooses to withdraw from his life of scheming. Yet Sujatha steps in to halt his departure, and the couple ultimately marries. The ending lands in a light, comic note as Sundaram comes to accept the mole-bearing Sundari as the woman hinted at by the prophecy, bringing the tale full circle with a smile.
