Paul Blart, portrayed by Kevin James, lives a simple life in West Orange, New Jersey, where he is raising his daughter Maya and looking after his mother. His dream of becoming a member of the New Jersey State Police is driven by a strong work ethic, exemplified during his time at the police academy. Unfortunately, a hypoglycemic episode derails his aspirations, and he finds himself settling for a less illustrious position as a security guard at the local West Orange Pavilion Mall.
In his routine patrols on his trusty Segway, Blart takes it upon himself to mentor the new security recruit, Veck Simms, played by Keir O’Donnell, whose lack of enthusiasm is hard to miss. Amidst his duties, he unexpectedly meets Amy Anderson, a charming vendor at a new kiosk in the mall, sparking a connection that leads to a budding romance. Their relationship appears promising, but a disastrous nacho-eating contest leaves Blart drunk and disheveled at a company gathering.
However, on the chaotic night of Black Friday, everything turns upside down when a gang of thieves, disguised as Santa’s Village employees, storms the mall. Leading this crew is none other than Simms, who takes Amy and several other individuals hostage, forcing the evacuation of most shoppers and implementing motion sensors at the mall’s entrances to prevent anyone from re-entering.
Unaware of the unfolding danger, Blart spends his early morning hours jamming on Rock Band. When he finally enters the mall, he finds it ominously deserted. Faced with the urgent need to save Amy, he confronts Simms and his gang head-on, significantly outnumbered, yet he remains steadfast in his resolve.
As Blart takes down the criminals one by one, he discovers hidden credit card codes inked in invisible writing on their arms, hinting at a much more nefarious plot beyond a straightforward robbery. With his tenacity and creativity at play, the scene is set for an epic showdown against the criminal masterminds.
Just when Blart thinks things can’t get more complicated, Maya inadvertently walks into the chaos and is swiftly captured by the thieves. Brimming with determination, Blart jumps into action, using his unique blend of clumsiness and unexpected bravery to take down each henchman. His plan to rescue the hostages through an air vent runs into trouble as his colleague’s size becomes a hurdle.
Simms uses this moment of distraction to seize Blart, demanding the credit card codes from his phone. With a crafty look, he abducts both Amy and Maya, plunging the mall into further disarray as SWAT teams prepare for a raid.
In a tense pursuit, Blart commandeers a display minivan with his colleague Kent, racing to the airport where Simms intends to make a risky getaway to the Cayman Islands. A thrilling showdown unfolds as Blart ultimately manages to subdue Simms. However, just when victory seems at hand, Kent’s true colors are revealed—he has been collaborating with Simms all along.
As the stakes escalate, Kent pressures Blart to surrender his phone containing the vital codes, but our brave hero stays resolute. In a dramatic twist, he destroys the device, inciting Kent’s fury. Before chaos can ensue, Chief Brooks of the mall security team steps in and apprehends Kent, foiling his plans.
With both Simms and Kent in custody, Amy and Maya are safely returned to their families. In a gesture of gratitude for his courage, Howard offers Blart a position with the New Jersey State Police. Nonetheless, Blart graciously declines, preferring to continue his mission of safety within the realm of mall security.
In a touching finale, Blart and Amy celebrate their love by exchanging vows while riding sleek black and white Segways, surrounded by friends, family, and the lively energy of their cherished mall setting.
