Passport to Destiny

During the London Blitz, Ella cleans the attic and discovers her late husband's Magic Eye charm among his effects. She pockets the charm and begins to credit it with his protection. The discovery seeds her belief that she might be invulnerable.

Caught in a London street during a delay action bomb, Ella is told to run or lie down. She chooses to lie still and survives the blast, then is helped into a shelter in a daze. The experience reinforces her sense of luck tied to the charm.

As she recovers, Ella wonders what she would do if totally invulnerable. A friend suggests she might go to Germany to give Hitler what for, crystallizing her resolve. The idea pushes her toward drastic action.

Ella stows away on a British merchant ship, provoking superstition among the crew who believe a woman aboard is bad luck. The ship is sunk by a German bomber, forcing her to improvise for survival.

She reaches France in a lifeboat and hides as other survivors are captured by Germans. She makes her way across France and Germany, adopting the disguise of a deaf mute cleaning woman.

On a train she shares a compartment with German Captain Franz Von Weber. Frederick Walthers arrives and she is asked to leave, but the two men prove to be members of the anti-Hitler resistance. She listens from outside as plans unfold.

Ella convinces Lieutenant Bosch that she is deaf and mute and is hired as a cleaner in the Reich Chancellery. She tests his vigilance when he fires a pistol, remaining still and unseen.

In Dietrich's office, the British traitor Herr Joyce, known as Lord Haw, complains about his treatment. Ella overhears that Grete is being held in Moabit Prison, setting up the rescue attempt.

Franz tries to see Dietrich; Ella writes Grete Mobit on the floor, signaling to Franz. He realises that the English speaking woman is Ella and she lends him the Magic Eye to rescue Grete, though Dietrich intends to trap resistance networks.

Lord Haw and other prisoners are rounded up as Dietrich is exposed. The Royal Air Force bombs the Chancellery, causing confusion. Ella, Franz and Grete seize the moment to escape toward an airfield.

Ella, Franz and Grete steal a bomber and fly to England, landing by parachute. They are hailed as heroes upon their arrival and reunion with English soil.

Back in England, Ella shows a reporter her husband's chest where she found the amulet. She then uncovers a box filled with many more charms, each a souvenir of past lives and perhaps a larger story behind the magic eye.
