Colonel Kim Jin-pyong is a decorated war hero who stands on the verge of promotion to general. Yet his affection for his wife has cooled, and he struggles with lingering PTSD from the Vietnam War.

Captain Kyung Woo-jin is transferred to Jin-pyong's unit and moves in next door with his wife Ga-heun. The proximity plants the seeds of an emotional tension as Jin-pyong becomes curious about Ga-heun and her life. This new dynamic foreshadows the conflict to come.

Jin-pyong encounters Ga-heun and is immediately drawn to her, a feeling he has never experienced before. He struggles to reconcile this attraction with his long-held devotion to his wife and the pressures of service. The attraction marks the start of a dangerous personal conflict.

In a drunken moment he shouts about why she left him, revealing the secret to the army.

In a fit of rage at the scandal, Jin-pyong's father-in-law orders him to return to Vietnam. Jin-pyong pleads to give up his army career for Ga-heun, but she refuses to sacrifice her life. He attempts suicide, fails, and leaves the base for Vietnam in despair.

At an official party two years later, Special Unit personnel from Vietnam inform Ga-heun that Jin-pyong died on the battlefield while guiding them. They present a Polaroid of Ga-heun and Jin-pyong dancing, a memory captured forever. The revelation confirms the end of their shared story and triggers profound grief for Ga-heun.

In his dying moment, Jin-pyong reaches for the Polaroid photograph of Ga-heun and himself, a symbol of the love they shared. He is seen dead after the helicopter arrival, and Ga-heun mourns the man who loved her and the life they could not live together. The scene seals the bittersweet tragedy of their affair.
