Among the attendees is Biggie Smalls, who is relaxing in a chair, cigar in hand, while energetic dancers, including Faith Evans and Puff Daddy, entertain the crowd. In a brief moment of joy, Biggie, Puff Daddy, and their gang cruise around town, drawing the attention of admirers. However, the fun abruptly turns to horror when a black Chevy Impala pulls up, unleashing a hail of bullets directed at Biggie.
As the scene fades, the narrative flashes back to 1983, where we meet young Biggie, enduring the harsh realities of childhood, including mockery from his classmates while he channels his thoughts into writing songs. His mother, Voletta Wallace, confronts the ghost of his father, who abandoned them years ago, leading to a confrontation that profoundly impacts Biggie. Soon, the allure of the streets entices him, pushing him into a life of hustling and drugs.
Fast forward to 1990, at seventeen, Biggie teams up with his close friends, D-Roc (played by Dennis L.A. White) and Lil Cease. His charisma shines through as he triumphs in a street rap competition, where he first lays eyes on Lil Kim, igniting a spark between them. But when his mother uncovers the harsh realities of his life choices, she is forced to kick him out of their home.
