Jia's mother lives in Australia, and Jia is studying in India during the holidays. She is free-spirited and unattached, with a charm that catches attention but is still unaware of the consequences. There is a sense of affinity toward Vijay, though nothing serious has been acted upon.

One seemingly innocent moment in the garden—Jia watering herself with a garden hose—stirs emotions in Vijay.
