Raj rapes Tara because he is obsessed with Maya, not Tara. During the wedding ceremony, Raj's gaze was fixed on Maya instead of his intended bride. The Shah's forces seize the palace as Maya walks away into uncertainty.

Raj then orders Maya brought to the palace as his favored courtesan.
