A small alien spacecraft drifts through the Solar System and is struck by an asteroid as it nears Earth. The damaged ship crashes under the cover of night in the quiet town of Perry Hall. Two hunters notice the crash and alert Sheriff Cinder, setting the town on edge.

News of the crash reaches the county sheriff, who mobilizes his team to investigate. Locals begin to speculate as search parties converge on the crash site. The incident marks the start of a town-wide fear.

From the wreckage the pilot emerges, and the beast wields a deadly disintegrator ray. The ray slaughters the hunters and installs dread as the town realizes the threat is real. The attack triggers a rapid cascade of chaos.

The creature launches a stealthy attack on a couple in their home and later targets a family out for a drive, leaving destruction in its wake. The town begins to confront an incomprehensible threat that seems unstoppable. Fear spreads as more victims are reported.

Cinder and his deputy Lisa join a handful of armed residents, including a man named Jamie, to close in on the beast. They quickly discover the creature is impervious to ordinary bullets, turning their initial efforts into a costly climb. Their ranks suffer casualties as the disintegrator's reach proves deadly.

A skilled marksman arrives and contends with the creature in a tense confrontation. He shoots the beast with enough force to blow away some of its exterior and briefly renders it vulnerable. The moment offers a fragile glimmer of hope for the town.

The brief respite ends when the marksman’s son and another officer perish in the ensuing shootout. The losses underscore the peril facing Perry Hall and its defenders. The threat remains unabated despite the temporary vulnerability.

Police begin a coordinated evacuation of Perry Hall to protect civilians. Mayor Bert Wicker refuses to cancel his party for governor Embry, insisting the celebration proceed, which heightens the danger and political tension.

A delinquent named Drago uses the commotion to prey on his girlfriend and evade capture. When police move to order the evacuation, Drago slips away and returns to strangle the girl, escalating personal violence amid the crisis.

Jamie, suspicious of Drago, takes action on his own and uses a dirt bike to confront him. The confrontation highlights Jamie’s growing involvement in the town's fight against the monster. The danger of the situation intensifies.

Cinder and his deputy, Lisa, uncover a mutilated corpse and narrowly escape a menacing return by the creature. Cinder injures his leg during the escape, and Lisa helps him recuperate at her home. A private moment between them foreshadows renewed resolve.

At Doctor Steven Price's office, the beast reappears and kills a few men. Price and nurse Ruth retreat to the basement and devise a plan to trap the creature using a frayed electrical cord, which shoots a shock and drives the beast away.

The beast slips past the defenses, killing Mary Jane in the basement and waking the fear-filled town. The mayor, drawn into the danger, goes to investigate and meets a brutal fate at the creature’s hands.

Cinder and his crew return to Wicker’s house with a plan to spring a trap by threading metal wire between trees and linking it to a high-voltage coil at the power plant. They intend to deliver a lethal surge when the breakers flip.

The beast attacks the trap, forcing Jamie to cling to the wire to keep the circuit intact. When the breakers are flipped, a powerful current detonates the creature in a spectacular explosion. In the chaos, Jamie is pulled into the blast and vanishes with the monster, leaving the town to face the aftermath.
