In the end, Orion Pax is resurrected after sacrificing himself, transformed into the heroic Optimus Prime, and takes on the mantle of leader for the Autobots and the entire planet, fulfilling the destiny set for him by the Primes. His death occurs when D-16, driven by rage and betrayal, refuses to accept his friend’s rebirth and wages war against him. D-16’s anger culminates in him confronting Orion and, despite Orion’s attempts to bring justice lawfully, he ultimately kills his former friend. As a consequence, Orion sees his body fall into the void of Cybertron but is later revived by the spirits of Primus and the Primes, who recognize his worthiness to carry on their legacy. The film reveals that D-16’s transformation into Megatron is a direct result of his complete corruption after his failure to kill Orion and his obsession with vengeance. The closing scene hints at more conflicts ahead, with D-16 becoming Megatron and gathering an army of disillusioned robots, setting the stage for the classic battle between Autobots and Decepticons to unfold in subsequent films.
