On the fictional Fells Island, a quiet date aboard a small speedboat turns terrifying when a massive tentacleway slips into the craft, wrapping around Krissy’s leg and sending panic through the vessel. Robbie MacGregor [Brian Edward Roach] fights to keep them afloat as the monster closes in, the boat buckling under pressure, and Krissy Neepenak [Larissa Tobacco] is torn from the boat and dragged beneath the waves. By morning, the community wakes to tragedy and confusion, as Krissy’s older brother Will Neepanak [Ryan Rajendra Black] reports her missing to Katrina “Kat” Tomas [Kyra Harper], the acting sheriff who carries her own history with the suspect menace on the water.

National Oceanographic Research Agency (NORA) sends Dan Leland [James Van Der Beek] to investigate a troubling drop in local fish catches, drawing him into the island’s fragile balance between fear and duty. Kat introduces him to Captain Gunner Thorson [Arne MacPherson], who commands the Freya and works with a rough-edged crew: Jordy [Erik Fjeldsted], Spider [Stephen Eric McIntyre], and their uneasy dynamic with the Cree population. The mood aboard is tense, with muttered accusations and barely concealed bias flaring toward Kat, who is half Native, and toward the First Nations fishermen they blame for the dwindling haul.

As night falls, a new horror visits the beach: a tourist is seized, and soon the wreckage of Robbie’s speedboat surfaces, a life preserver bearing horrific, toothed-sucker marks. Dan reaches out to his colleagues, emailing photos of the gruesome evidence to Dr. Perch [Adriana O’Neil] for her expert opinion, while Kat confronts the mounting danger with cautious resolve. Back at the morgue, Kat and Gunner grapple with the reality of what killed Krissy, and a local figure, Old Salt [Blake Taylor], drags Krissy’s leg from the shoreline, intensifying the town’s fear.

Dan and Kat push for a temporary fishing ban to buy time and resources, but Dr. Gorman [Tom Anniko], Dan’s boss at NORA, dismisses the possibility of a giant freshwater squid and withholds funding, forcing Kat to shoulder the burden of protecting her people without official support. The town is divided, and the young men on Gunner’s crew—Jordy and Spider—feel the pressure and danger of chasing a creature that could crush ships and kill with impunity.

The threat becomes personal when Gunner and his wife Jen Thorson [Kelly Wolfman] are attacked on the pier; Gunner fights back, severing a tentacle and bringing a piece of the evidence to the bar as proof of the threat. The decision to hunt the squid is made collectively, with Dan, Kat, Gunner, and a wary crew preparing to trust one another despite their differences. Willing to risk everything, they set out in two boats—Gunner’s Freya and Will Neepanak’s Wiiskachaan, carrying Jack [Akulu Meekis] and Ryan [Gabriel Daniels] as part of Will’s crew—as they attempt to outsmart a predator that can outmaneuver them at every turn.

Chumming the waters to draw the behemoth, the Freya’s engine falters and the Wiiskachaan becomes a critical anchor in a high-stakes plan to disorient the creature. The squid turns on the live engine, taking bites and towing the boats into peril; Jordy and Spider are pulled overboard and eaten, leaving Kat, Will’s crew, and Dan to improvise a decisive counterstrike. In a climactic moment, Dan attaches an improvised harpoon and powers it with electricity, driving the creature into a fatal arc of pain as the Freya’s systems surge back to life. With the monster finally defeated, the sun rises over the harbor, and the group begins the long process of healing.

In the quiet aftermath, Kat and Dan share a tentative look toward the future, acknowledging the losses endured and the fragile hope that remains. The island settles into a uneasy calm, the memory of the monstrous attack tempered by the resilience of those who refused to abandon one another in the face of an unseen, relentless threat.
