Zombie Apocalypse

The film opens with a rapid, feverish glimpse of the last six months, tracing the rise of a deadly VM2 virus that erupts in June 2012 when a French woman becomes infected. In a blistering arc of time, 83% of Europe falls to the outbreak within just 28 days, and the illness leaps across borders to become a global pandemic that reaches Japan and the United States. As the world grinds under the weight of fear and collapse, the United States is hammered by the crisis: six months in, the zombie plague has wiped out roughly 90% of the population. The mood is a stark, relentless march toward survival, where every quiet moment is a fragile breath held between danger and hope.

In the present, a trio of survivors—Ramona, [Taryn Manning], Billy, [Eddie Steeples], and Kevin, [Gerald Webb]—finish a desperate search of a burned-out auto repair shop for food and anything usable. The quiet is shattered when a loud noise draws a swelling horde of zombies. The trio is overrun; Kevin is swarmed and bitten before another group—Henry, [Ving Rhames], Julian, [Johnny Pacar], Cassie, [Lesley-Ann Brandt], and Mack, [Gary Weeks]—arrives just in time to intervene and blunt the attack. Kevin’s fate is sealed as he is bitten and turned, and Cassie quickly ends his suffering. With Kevin gone and the threat momentarily contained, the two groups decide to press on together. The new assembly shares a common goal: Catalina, a rumored survivor camp, and a potential safe harbor amid the chaos.

Their trek takes them through a buzzing strip mall where they raid a surf shop for footwear and protective gear. The quiet exchange among the group is ripped apart by a fast-moving “runner” zombie that draws a cluster of slower walkers. Cassie steps up to kill the runner, buying them a narrow escape out the back. That night, they huddle in a diner, sharing a tense, improvised meal as a fragile camaraderie forms under pressure. The next morning, they push toward the “Human Safe Zone” at the high school, hopeful for a sign of life. Inside, they find a haunting aftermath— corpses scattered and empty cots tell a grim tale of abandonment. When they explore the gym, a flood of zombies bursts in from multiple doors, plunging the group into chaos. Ramona is separated from the others, and Billy is overwhelmed and bitten; the group eventually finds Ramona in the showers, and they mourn Billy’s loss together.

Continuing their journey, the survivors cut through a small neighborhood where a house is burning. A bow-wielding rescuer fires an arrow and drags Mack, Julian, and Ramona to safety. Henry and Cassie become separated from the others, but soon reunite with a new pair of survivors in a nearby safe house—Myrah, Brockton, and Sarah. The archers agree to a plan to reach the ferry to Catalina, weighing Mack’s desire to turn back for Henry and Cassie against Brockton’s caution. They decide to follow the original route, hoping everyone will manage to meet again along the way. The following day, the group presses onward through the city, but a lull in the march proves deadly. Julian pauses to use a portable toilet and discovers a zombie hiding inside; chaos erupts as they are swarmed. Julian reveals his bite to Mack, and, in a painful moment of sacrifice, offers himself as a distraction. The group must subdue him, and Mack ends Julian’s life to spare the others.

Meanwhile, Henry and Cassie push toward the ferry dock on their own path. They stumble upon an abandoned army post and seize grenades to create a crucial advantage. Cassie uses a grenade to scatter a pursuing pack, and the blast becomes a feint that allows them to slip away from danger. The explosion draws countless zombies to the area, trapping the two on a rooftop where they observe their companions below. The pair eventually reunites with Mack’s larger group, and together they race toward the docks, desperate for any chance of escape. The dock offers a glimmer of hope: a ferry is in sight, with signs about quarantine, fresh water, and escape within reach. But the world refuses to give them an easy exit. A pair of infected tigers assault the group, leaving Brockton dead and Henry fatally bitten. Henry’s final wish is granted by Cassie, who ends his suffering, a solemn moment that underscores the cost of survival.

As the ferry’s horn approaches, the survivors gather with a weary resolve. Mack sits down to write in Julian’s diary, a small act of memory that endures amid the chaos.
