In Sydney, Australia, Russian scientist Nekhorvich works diligently to develop Bellerophon, the ultimate cure for his devastating super-virus, Chimera. He aims to expose the criminal activities of his employers by offering the virus to the U.S. Government.

Facing tremendous pressure and realizing the imminent danger posed by Chimera, Nekhorvich injects himself with the virus. This drastic action gives him only 20 hours to live, forcing him to take immediate action.

Desperate for help, Nekhorvich reaches out to his old friend, Ethan Hunt. He requests Ethan to escort him to Atlanta, underscoring the urgency of their situation and the importance of Bellerophon.

During their flight, Ethan reveals his true identity as Ambrose, a rogue agent. In a shocking moment, he kills Nekhorvich and takes Bellerophon, jumping from the plane before it crashes into the Rocky Mountains.
