During an ordinary market day, Meera's orange pushcart catches eyes; a group of arrogant men harass her. Muthu arrives in a swift, defiant rush and fends them off, defending his sister's dignity. Meera pleads for mercy and reveals her disability, highlighting their daily struggle.

Muthu and Meera live with their grandmother Philomina in a cramped mud house. Meera keeps the household running while Muthu works at a brick kiln. Their quiet resilience forms the emotional core of their world.

Aswathy, from a well-connected family, becomes the center of a budding romance with Muthu. Their private encounter at the brick kiln hints at a life beyond poverty, if they can bridge the social gap. Muthu dreams of a secure future in which Meera can live with dignity.

A matchmaker arrives and presents a potential union for Meera. The groom's father demands an impossible dowry of one hundred thousand rupees, revealing the brutal costs of marriage. Muthu's anger boils over as he rejects such a price tag, trying to protect his sister.

Suseelan, Muthu's gambler uncle, schemes to manipulate events for his own gain. He forges a letter to pretend his son will marry Meera, only to reveal the ruse later. The betrayal deepens the family rift, pushing Muthu toward a breaking point.

On his return, Muthu finds Meera worn down and humiliated. He confronts Suseelan and his cronies, carrying Meera home in his arms. The village judges them, yet his devotion remains unshaken.
