Raja Rao Bahadur is the head of a wealthy and charitable landlord family who has a young son, Sreedhar. At his son’s request, Rao helps his college friend Hari fund a higher education abroad, and Hari remains grateful enough to invite Sreedhar to his sister Laxmi’s wedding in the village. In a twist of fate, Sreedhar ends up marrying Laxmi, a turn that infuriates Mukkamala, Rao’s brother-in-law who had hoped to marry off his own daughter to Sreedhar. The wedding sets off a chain of tensions that tests loyalties, traditions, and the bonds of a once-harmonious household.
Laxmi soon wins over the royal household with her humility and good nature, while Sreedhar finds himself drawn to her innocence. The couple’s growing bond stands in stark contrast to the simmering scheming around them. Trouble surfaces when Laxmi accidentally uncovers a hidden stash of the estate jewels in a well, a secret that some seek to exploit. Joginatham and Mukkamala try to implicate the Priest in the theft, but Laxmi argues for sparing him since there’s no conclusive proof against him. This moment reveals the fragility of trust and the pressure to protect a lineage’s honor at any cost.
The web of manipulation tightens as Joginatham, the estate manager, convinces Mukkamala to adopt a more aggressive tactic. They turn to the Contractor, Rao Gopala Rao, who agrees to break up the couple not just to punish them but to seize control of the estate’s wealth. The Contractor’s plans grow darker when he uses Kishtaiyya, played by Nutan Prasad, to plant seeds of doubt in Sreedhar’s mind, weaving a sinister scheme designed to make the husband suspect his wife’s fidelity and loyalty. Under the growing cloud of suspicion, Sreedhar begins to doubt Laxmi, convinced that she is after his wealth rather than his affection.
The suspicion spirals into heartbreak as Sreedhar outwardly acknowledges his fears and then takes drastic action: he sends away the pregnant Laxmi along with the family jewels. Laxmi, determined not to be crushed by deceit, entrusts the jewels to Joginatham and, in a moment of despair, decides to end her life. She is rescued by the Priest, who becomes a quiet witness to her resolve. At the Priest’s house, Laxmi gives birth to twins—a boy and a girl—adding a new generation to the family’s story and elevating the stakes of every decision that follows.
Back at the estate, Sreedhar sinks into depression, losing interest in life as he grapples with the possibility that his marriage was a mistake. When Mukkamala suggests that Sreedhar should marry his daughter, he bursts with anger and curses the idea. The Contractor continues to tighten his grip on the estate, pairing Kishtaiyya with Jaya Malini and squeezing Mukkamala out of his money as part of a broader scheme to consolidate power. He also seizes several antiques that Joginatham had been trying to sell, leaving the estate at the mercy of a single, calculating plan to control every valuable asset.
Only the Deity’s Jewels remain in question as the emotional landscape grows heavier. The Raja, distressed by the lifeless turn of events on the estate, withdraws the jewels from private hands and places them in the temple, choosing to wander the villages rather than remain idle. In a pivotal moment, he encounters Laxmi’s twins—his own grandchildren—and the truth of the situation begins to crystallize for him. He returns to the family with a quiet plea for reconciliation, asking Laxmi to come back.
Laxmi, however, refuses to be dismissed by favors or recommendations. She states clearly that Sreedhar must come to her again, acknowledge his mistake, and ask for her return if there is to be any chance of healing the rift. The Raja, empowered by the innocence of the children and aided by Sreedhar’s loyal friend, devises a plan to restore balance and outsmart the Contractor. Together, they craft a strategy to reclaim what has been lost, to in good faith repair the broken trust, and to beat the Contractor at his own game—redefining love, loyalty, and justice in the process. The story closes with a renewed sense of purpose as the family confronts greed and deception, choosing unity and integrity over division.
