Vishnu Trivedi, a failing politician in Mathura, launches a campaign to ban live-in relationships, framing it as a defense of conservative Indian culture. His party also targets film star Nazeem Khan, who is rumored to be in a live-in relationship. The political climate grows heated as social norms become a battleground.

Rashmi begins an internship at a local news channel and works with star reporter Vinod 'Guddu' Shukla and his cameraman Abbas. Guddu and Rashmi fall in love, and Guddu proposes. Rashmi suggests a live-in relationship as a compromise rather than rushing into marriage.

Not ready for marriage, Guddu resists at first; Rashmi proposes living together. Abbas suggests testing the arrangement during a 20-day business trip to Gwalior as a compromise. Guddu and Rashmi agree to try living together during the trip.

During the 20-day trip, they rent a modest apartment in a conservative area and pose as a married couple. The pretense brings them closer, and they eventually consummate their relationship. Their privacy is compromised when nosy neighbor Mrs. Srivastava becomes suspicious of their status.

Mrs. Srivastava witnesses their intimate moment and grows convinced they are not married. She plans to gather the neighbours to protest and expose them the next morning. The couple hatches a counter plan to save face.

Overnight, Guddu and Rashmi forge wedding photographs and mementos to mislead the community. They succeed in stalling Srivastava's plan, at least temporarily, keeping their secret intact. The tension remains as the 20-day period nears its end.

As they prepare to leave Gwalior, Guddu's relative Babulal spots them together and follows them, eventually seeing the wedding pictures. He misreads the situation and assumes they eloped. The rumor soon reaches Guddu's family.

Babulal brings Guddu's family to confront him, demanding an explanation. Guddu and Rashmi withhold the truth and travel back to Mathura to meet Rashmi's family, hoping for acceptance. Vishnu is initially supportive of marriage, warning that cohabitation could invite deadly consequences.

Back in the family circle, they begin living as a married couple but yearn for legal validity. They make several attempts to wed in secret, but intrusions disrupt each plan. Frustrated, they pivot to a mass marriage as a last resort.

During the mass marriage event, Vishnu appears as chief guest and catches them red-handed. Exhausted, they admit that they have been cohabiting. The revelation forces the families to confront the truth together.

Guddu explains to Vishnu that his election loss stems from the elder generation's reluctance to change and rebellion against modern youth. He argues that younger voters favor modern relationships and acceptance. This confrontation plants the seeds for a new, more flexible stance.

Moved by Guddu's honesty, Vishnu resolves to stop opposing live-in relationships and supports Rashmi's marriage. The political climate shifts as the elder candidate embraces modernization and youth values. The couple's future looks brighter with Vishnu's blessing.

Guddu and Rashmi marry with Vishnu's blessing. The story ends with them joining a rally led by Vishnu, who has allied with Nazeem Khan for his election campaign.
