In the year 2029, the world stands on the precipice of mutant extinction, as no new mutants have emerged for 25 years. James “Logan” Howlett (Hugh Jackman), known in his glory days as Wolverine, now leads a mundane life as a chauffeur in Texas. The once formidable healing factor that sustained him has diminished, resulting in a significantly aged body. Logan resides in a dilapidated smelting plant just over the Mexican border with Caliban (Stephen Merchant), a mutant tracker, where they both care for Professor Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart), who is battling the ravages of Alzheimer’s disease. This condition not only clouds his mind but also triggers destructive seizures that inflict excruciating pain on both Logan and Caliban, a pain that can only be soothed by administering tranquilizers to Xavier.

As Logan grapples with financial woes, he’s deep in debt over his stretch limousine, facing constant pressure to make payments of $40,000. Caliban expresses concern about Logan’s well-being, noting the Adamantium bullet he carries, hinting at Logan’s dark contemplations about his own end. One fateful day, Logan is approached by Gabriela Lopez (Elizabeth Rodriguez), a nurse from the biotechnology corporation Alkali-Transigen. She implores him to escort her and an 11-year-old girl named Laura (Dafne Keen) to a supposed sanctuary for mutants called “Eden” in North Dakota. Desperate for cash to secure a boat for Xavier’s sake—hoping that the sea might help temper his relentless seizures—Logan reluctantly accepts Gabriela’s offer of $50,000.

However, tragedy strikes when Logan discovers Gabriela has been murdered upon reaching the motel she mentioned. In a twist of fate, he unwittingly brings Laura back with him to Mexico, hidden in his car. The three soon encounter Donald Pierce (Boyd Holbrook), the ruthless chief of security for Transigen, who is hot on their trail with his merciless enforcers known as the Reavers. The strength and combat prowess exhibited by Laura, possessing Adamantium claws and enhanced healing abilities, surprises Logan as she helps him fend off their attackers.

As they journey onward, they discover that Laura is part of a disturbing project where Transigen engineered several mutant children, including her, from DNA samples — with Laura being created specifically from Logan’s genetic material. Haunted by the implications of this dark past, Xavier convinces Logan to accept Laura as his daughter in every meaningful way.

After a venture to Oklahoma City, where Logan acquires a new vehicle, the trio finds themselves tangled in the midst of conflict once again. A telepathic seizure caused by Xavier leads to a catastrophic event, culminating in the slaughter of an innocent family at the hands of X-24, a lethal clone of Logan. The loss weighs heavily on the group, as they navigate through pain and retribution.

Logan eventually finds himself in a clinic, worn out and hesitant to continue their arduous journey. However, with Laura’s encouragement, he rallies to reach Eden, only to discover it’s a refuge for the fleeing children. In a crumbling world, Logan learns about the heartbreaking fate that awaits the children at the hands of Transigen, realized through the sinister actions of Dr. Zander Rice (Richard E. Grant), director of the project aimed at wiping out mutant-kind.

The confrontation escalates when a newly regenerated X-24 attacks, and in the chaos, Logan finds himself mortally wounded. Yet, in a poignant final stand, Laura makes a defining choice that seals their fate. Logan’s last words to Laura carry immense weight, urging her to reject the violent path predestined for her. In the end, the children, united in grief, honor Logan’s legacy with a simple but heartfelt burial, marking his grave with an “X” to signify the last of the X-Men’s valiant spirit as they forge ahead, determined to escape their harrowing history.
