Little Golden Book Land

Beamer the Old Lighthouse is worried after the storms batter the breakwater and leave a hole. He calls a meeting with the big ships to explain what needs fixing. The big ships laugh at him and Beamer orders them to stop.

Overhearing the meeting, Scuffy the Tugboat promises to help fix the breakwater. He is determined to prove that a little tugboat can do big things, despite the big ships' laughter. Beamer nods and gives him the chance to try.

Scuffy explains the problem to his friends Tootle, Katy Caboose, Poky Little Puppy, and Shy Little Kitten. They agree to help despite their fears of getting into trouble. Scuffy convinces them that teamwork can fix the breakwater.

Together they set out to collect materials to fix the breakwater. They encounter adventures along the way and face moments of doubt about their plan. Still, they press on toward Cavetown and beyond.

Poky Little Puppy and Scuffy meet Saggy Baggy Elephant along the way. He offers his coconuts to help, but Scuffy points out that they need a rock instead. Saggy Baggy Elephant then leads them toward Cavetown.

They pass through Cavetown Tunnel and meet Baby Brown Bear, who helps by guiding them to a big round rock perched on a mountaintop. The group grows hopeful that the rock can block the breakwater.

Just as a storm starts, all the friends push the rock off the mountaintop. The rock rolls down toward Tootle and lands on the tracks.

The rock blocks Katy and Tootle's passage on the tracks and stops them in their tracks. It then begins chasing the friends, leaving a trail of destruction behind it.

Beamer spots Tootle in the midst of the worsening storm and orders the cargo ship to act. The ship drops mattresses from its hold onto the ground, and Tootle brakes to fling everything from her cars. The friends land on the mattresses, except Scuffy who lands back in the water.

The rock lands squarely in the breakwater hole, plugging it and stopping Harbortown from flooding. The storm continues to batter the coast, but the immediate danger is averted.

The storm passes and Beamer hosts a party to celebrate Scuffy and the group. Scuffy gives credit to all his friends, emphasizing teamwork rather than individual glory. Tawny Scrawny Lion raises a toast, and Shy Little Kitten spots a rainbow in the sky.

A rainbow arcs across the sky, signaling hope for Harbortown. The friends share a quiet moment of relief and pride in what they accomplished together.
