At the North Pole, the Christmas magic rests on a delicate balance between belief and wonder. Santa Claus [George Wendt] and his loyal, all-white Great Pyrenees, Santa Paws [Tom Bosley], step outside to inspect the magical Christmas Icicle, a shimmering symbol of the season that is melting because faith in Christmas has waned. If this melting continues, the world may wake up to a Christmas without sparkle or meaning. The stakes are softly spoken yet enormous, and the fate of Santa’s workshop—and perhaps the entire holiday—hangs on what happens next.

Into this unsettled moment wanders Puppy Paws [Zachary Gordon], the playful son of Santa Paws, whose mischief wears the shape of curiosity. His innocent wish to see what happens if Christmas vanishes crackles through the Icicle, and the ensuing snap sets off a chain of events that pulls a whole ensemble of young dogs—the Buddies—into an unfamiliar world far from the North Pole. The Buddies include Budderball [Josh Flitter], Buddha [Field Cate], Rosebud [Liliana Mumy], and B-Dawg [Skyler Gisondo], each with a distinct personality and a growing hunger to understand the true meaning of the season. Mudbud [Ty Panitz] and their other canine friends soon learn that their own doubts about Christmas mirror the doubts in their hearts, and their playful exuberance becomes a catalyst for change.

When Puppy Paws lands in Fernfield, Washington, the North Pole’s crisis meets a suburban family’s everyday life. Budderball finds Puppy Paws in his home, and the two quickly become a bridge between two worlds that have forgotten how to believe. Puppy Paws, eager but naïve, proves to be a lively nuisance in the Buddies’ household: Budderball is unjustly blamed for shortbread cookie mischief; B-Dawg is challenged in a breakdancing contest by the North Pole visitor; Mudbud’s dirt-dusting lessons create accidental holiday shapes that mislead the others; and the group’s usual Christmas routine gets turned on its head as their sense of order collapses. Rosebud undergoes a drastic, over-the-top Christmas makeover, and Buddha’s reflective meditation is humorously repurposed into a snowman’s silhouette, all in Puppy Paws’s enthusiastic attempt to teach them to celebrate in new ways.

The Buddies, worn and wary of Puppy Paws’s unexpected chaos, ultimately decide to shun him, not realizing that their own actions are what threaten the season’s spirit. Their frustration climaxes in a sharp, emotional moment where they push Puppy Paws away, only to discover that the real hurt is not coming from him but from their own hardened hearts. Sniffer [Tim Conway], the elf-like observer among the canine crew, gently reminds them that Christmas is built on giving and on generosity, not fear or discipline. Meanwhile, Puppy Paws is captured by dog catcher Stan Cruge [Christopher Lloyd], who transports him to the local pound. There, Puppy Paws forms an unlikely alliance with Tiny [Kaitlyn Maher], a hopeful little dog who sings about miracles and the possibility of Christmas returning to life. Her hopeful song becomes a beacon that rekindles Puppy Paws’s faith, and the bond between the two underscores a central message: miracles arrive when people choose to believe again.

Eddy [Richard Kind], a magical elf dog, and Eli [Danny Woodburn], whose wisdom runs as deep as the holiday night, join the Buddies in their quest to rescue Puppy Paws. Eddy explains Cruge’s hardened view of Christmas—born from a painful past and a longing for a holiday that never arrived for him as a child—while Eli helps to rekindle the true spirit of the season, reminding everyone that compassion can soften even the coldest hearts. With their guidance, the mood at the North Pole begins to shift from fear to hope, and the Icicle’s melt slows as belief returns to its rightful place.

As the rescued dogs reunite with the Buddies, the North Pole comes back to life. The reindeer regain their strength, and the group discovers a remarkable set of abilities they had stored away: their shared lessons from Shasta, the spirit-guide reindeer of old, give them the confidence they need to participate in Christmas deliveries with heart, courage, and a touch of whimsy. The town’s Christmas clock begins to tick again, and the stakes transform from saving a moment to restoring a tradition.

The climactic moments bring Tiny’s wish full circle: a kinder, more inclusive holiday where a dog catcher’s heart can be mended by a girl’s warmth and a child’s belief. Mr. Cruge experiences a quiet transformation, and the moment of reconciliation culminates in a family dinner that welcomes Tiny into a new home. The Buddies, now celebrated for their bravery and generosity, stand alongside Puppy Paws as they help deliver one last batch of gifts with perfect timing. Santa Claus and Santa Paws return to Fernfield, bringing with them the two elements that define Christmas for so many: belonging and joy.
