Lisabi: The Uprising

King Olodan, the ruler of the Olodan kingdom, defiantly rejects the heavy tributes imposed by the Alaafin of the Oyo Empire. This act of rebellion sets off a chain of violent events that will change the fate of his kingdom.

For his refusal to pay the tributes, King Olodan is brutally beaten and taken to the palace of the Alaafin. The scene illustrates the harsh punishment that befalls those who dare to defy the Alaafin's rule.

The collection of tributes becomes a means of oppression for the people of Egba land, led by Songodeyi, the ruthless tribute collector. The collectors not only demand payment but also extort and terrorize the villagers, deepening their suffering.

The tribute collectors, demonstrating their unmatched cruelty, not only take more than what is owed but also commit heinous acts, including violence against women. This escalates the anger and desperation among the Egba populace.

Oshokenu, a friend of the farmer Lisabi, witnesses the brutal actions of the tribute collectors. He courageously questions their motives, advocating for justice, only to be met with severe punishment for his audacity.

Despite his reputation as a lazy farmer, Oshokenu wins the love of Abebi, a beautiful woman from Egba. With the support of his friend Lisabi, they celebrate their happiness with a wedding, marking a brief respite from their troubled life.

On the day of Oshokenu's wedding, tragedy strikes when Abebi is ambushed by the tribute collectors. They commit a horrific act against her, leaving her traumatized and her dignity shattered.

Devastated by the trauma from her attack, Abebi takes her own life, emphasizing the brutal consequences of oppression. Her death deepens the scars of grief and anger among the survivors, especially Oshokenu.

Filled with rage over Abebi's fate, Oshokenu embarks on a path of vengeance against the tribute collectors. He confronts them fiercely, managing to kill ten before succumbing to a fatal gunshot.

As Oshokenu lies dying, he entrusts Lisabi with a dying wish for vengeance and justice. Moved deeply, Lisabi vows to lead the Egba people in a fight against their oppressors, igniting a revolutionary spirit.

Lisabi organizes the Aaro society, a communal work group meant to unify the Egba people. While presenting an appearance of compliance, they prepare for a larger uprising against their tyrants.

With meticulous planning, Lisabi fosters solidarity among the farmers. The covert operations and communal efforts evolve into a strong foundation for the impending rebellion against the Oyo forces.

The tension between the Egba and their Oyo overlords reaches a breaking point as Lisabi leads the rebellion. Fierce and dramatic battles ensue as the Egba fight valiantly for their freedom and independence.

After a series of intense confrontations, the Egba forces successfully overthrow the Oyo Empire's rule. This historic victory marks a significant turning point in the fight against oppression, leading to the liberation of their land.
