Light Sleeper

John LeTour, a 40-year-old delivery man from New York, works for Ann, who provides a select group of clients in the banking and finance industry with drugs. As Ann considers transitioning into the cosmetics field, LeTour grapples with his own battle against insomnia and a dim outlook on life.

One fateful evening, LeTour encounters his ex-wife, Marianne, with whom he shared a passionate yet volatile relationship marred by substance abuse. Although both have overcome their addiction, Marianne rebuffs his proposal for a fresh start. After a fleeting night together, she ultimately informs him that this was her way of saying goodbye. Unbeknownst to her, a tragedy unfolds as her mother passes away at the hospital during their encounter. Later, when they cross paths again, Marianne lashes out at LeTour, demanding that he vacate her life permanently.

As the story unfolds, the police begin to scrutinize LeTour, suspecting him due to his association with Tis, a client linked to the drug-related death of a young woman. During his next delivery, LeTour is confronted with the horrifying sight of a disoriented Marianne in Tis’s apartment. Shortly after he leaves, she tragically falls from a height, resulting in her death. LeTour cooperates with the police by providing information about Marianne’s final moments. At her wake, Randi, Marianne’s sister, urges him not to carry the burden of guilt over the incident.

Things escalate when Tis places another order and insists that LeTour make the delivery. Sensing a trap, LeTour is cautious, and Ann decides to accompany him to Tis’s hotel. Realizing that he must confront Tis directly, LeTour asks Ann to wait for him downstairs. As she departs, Ann raises an alarm in the hallway, creating a distraction that enables LeTour to take the upper hand. In a tense showdown, he kills Tis along with his two henchmen, suffering only minor injuries. Collapsing onto the hotel bed, he displays not anger but a profound sense of exhaustion, with police sirens echoing in the background.

Later, in jail, Ann visits LeTour, where he shares his aspirations for a brighter future, hinting at the possibility that she may choose to wait for him, as they navigate the complexities of their lives entwined with loss and redemption.
