Knight Rider 2000

Thomas J. Watts is released from prison and immediately assassinates the mayor. Police officer Shawn McCormick confronts the masked Watts as he holds the next mayor at gunpoint; she shoots Watts, and he flees. The city reels from the attack as authorities scramble to respond.

The new mayor demands that the gunman be found, while his councilmen reprimand him for disarming the police and setting up the cryo-prison. The cryo-prison policy prompts fierce opposition and debate about civil liberties and public safety. City governance becomes a battleground over how to handle crime and punishment.

The Knight Foundation unveils a plan combining Knight Industries and the Foundation for Law and Government to create the Knight 4000. Devon Miles and his partner Russel Maddock green-light the idea and push for a working prototype. The city agrees to see a demonstration before committing to the project.

Devon Miles recruits Michael Knight as the test driver for the Knight 4000 prototype. The device promises advanced capabilities beyond KITT, setting the stage for a high-stakes test drive. The project proceeds as the city seeks a reliable crime-fighting upgrade.

The Knight 4000 builds on KITT's legacy with added amphibious mode, a heads-up display, and a remotely deployable stun device. The demonstration showcases its versatility and potential to counter the rising criminal threat. The car proves it can handle land and water in pursuit and rescue scenarios.

Watts shoots Shawn McCormick again, and doctors manage to implant a microchip in her brain to aid in her recovery. She regains consciousness but cannot remember the details of the attack. The implant creates a new link to KITT's digital systems.

Michael rebuilds KITT's AI unit and installs it in his 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air. He downloads a functioning AI and wires it into the dashboard controls. This upgrade restores KITT's guidance to Michael and the team.

Shawn resigns from the police after learning her chief did not authorize the brain chip implant or involve himself in her case. She seeks employment with the Foundation, and Michael learns one of KITT's cybernetic chips sits in Shawn's head. KITT interfaces with the chip to retrieve Shawn's missing memories.

Watts discovers Shawn survived and sends corrupt cops to eliminate her and Michael. They are chased in KITT as Watts accelerates his plans, culminating in a dramatic escape where KITT drives off a pier and sinks. Michael and Shawn survive, but KITT is damaged.

Watts uses mind scanning to locate Devon Miles and captures him, killing him in the process. Michael and Shawn return to the Foundation to mourn Devon at his funeral. In the wake of the death, the mayor terminates FLAG's contract, signaling a shift in the city's power structure.

Following the fallout, the mayor's termination of FLAG prompts Michael to quit—until Shawn challenges him to return. He retrofits the Knight 4000 with KITT's AI, restoring a powerful tool for their police work. The team commits to continuing their mission together.

They track a warehouse where guns are stored and Shawn arranges a gun transaction with her former partner. Before he can cooperate with FLAG's investigation, Watts shoots him. Michael intervenes to save Shawn from being killed.

Maddock sends KITT copies of the prison release papers for Watts, signed by the murdered mayor. Michael has KITT print more copies with a fraudulent signature to the mayor as well. The team records a conversation between the mayor and Watts discussing the papers.

After ambushing a caravan of corrupt cops, they discover no guns and learn of another group heading for the local mall. Daniels is convinced to allow pursuit, leading to a tense showdown where Michael uses an ultrasound gun to stop Watts, who falls to his death. The mayor is subsequently imprisoned.

With Watts defeated and the mayor jailed, Michael retires from active duty. KITT remains at the Knight Foundation with Shawn and Maddock, and the trio continues their police work together. The partnership endures as they leverage new technology for law enforcement.
