Kattradhu Thamizh

Prabhakar works as a Tamil teacher in a private school and lives alone in a lodge in West Mambalam, Chennai. He becomes frustrated by a society that undervalues his mother tongue and by the low pay of teachers, which fuels thoughts of suicide.

After a violent outburst, Prabhakar kills a railway booking clerk in a fit of rage. Hunted by the police, he becomes a fugitive and drifts across the country.

To escape his troubles, he roams the country and even joins sadhus who are high on pot, growing a shaggy beard as he travels. The journey marks a turn toward self-imposed exile and deeper turmoil.

At gunpoint, he abducts television anchor Yuvaan-Suang to record his life story. The footage captures his confession to killing 22 people, and the captured confession serves as a frame for the present narrative.

During a flashback, Prabhakar is raised by his Tamil teacher Poobal Raavar in a village and forms a bond with Anandhi, his childhood sweetheart. Their innocent friendship gradually blossoms into a shared yearning that shapes his future.

As Prabhakar grows, Anandhi's family moves away and tragedy strikes when his mother and grandparents die in an accident. His soldier father enrolls him in a boarding school, where Poobal becomes a father figure.

After finishing 12th grade, he travels to Poobal's funeral and intervenes in a fistfight to secure justice for Anandhi's family. This act deepens their bond and leads them to meet regularly thereafter.

Prabhakar enters college to study Tamil and faces ridicule from his roommate and others. Anandhi's mother, seeing him as a potential financial provision, even sells Prabhakar's motorcycle to cover expenses, but he doesn't begrudge her.

Anandhi and her mother move to North India to stay with her uncle due to financial difficulties, leaving Prabhakar out of contact. He later traces her and reconnects.

Prabhakar secures a job as a Tamil teacher and moves into a lodge, but struggles with a meager salary and loses focus in his personal life. One night a drunken encounter leads him to threaten a call center employee who cannot recite Tamil verses.

The police arrest him for smoking in public; after release, he makes a failed suicide attempt. Authorities later try to frame him on false charges, but he escapes and inadvertently kills a railway clerk.

Prabhakar reconnects with Anandhi, who has become a prostitute, and he rescues her from pimps at gunpoint. He plans to leave the city with her but ultimately leaves her at a women’s hostel.

He later encounters Yuvaan and Suang again as the police close in on him back in his hometown. The pursuit intensifies as authorities prepare to arrest him.

In a final, devastating moment, Prabhakar and Anandhi hold hands and run toward an oncoming train, choosing death at the same spot where his childhood dog died.
