Madhav “Maddy” Kabra, played by Imran Khan, is an architect deeply infatuated with Payal, portrayed by Kangana Ranaut, captivated by her unique outlook on life. The two share a live-in relationship that lasts five years, but a sudden twist leads to Payal leaving Maddy without a clear explanation. Despite the passage of two years since their separation, Maddy finds himself unable to move on, clinging to the memories of their time together. Concern for his well-being grows amongst his friends and family, who urge him to let go of the past.

Before meeting Maddy, Payal dated Ricky, played by Vivan Bhatena, who once pursued her aggressively and fought Maddy over her affections. Now, two years after the breakup, Ricky re-enters Maddy’s life as a client at his architecture firm, seizing every chance to belittle him. The narrative often shifts to flashbacks, revealing the extent of Maddy’s love for Payal. She, with her free-spirited nature, was never meant to be tied down, marking their relationship as a recipe for disaster. After college, Maddy and Payal lived together in Mumbai, where they faced significant challenges, including the death of Maddy’s mother, with whom he shared a close bond. Maddy’s family regarded Payal as one of their own, hoping she would help him through this heartbreaking time.

After their breakup, Maddy reaches out to Payal, who has moved to Delhi. However, her aloof demeanor suggests she has moved on, leaving Maddy devastated. Attempting to distract himself, he begins dating his colleague Devika on his best friend’s recommendation. Unfortunately, this friend sends pictures of their outings to Ricky, who eagerly displays them to Payal. As a devastating consequence, Maddy learns that Payal is engaged to Ricky.

Through their mutual friends, Maddy discovers that Payal was increasingly distressed by their frequent arguments. Shockingly, he realizes that Payal’s account of their disputes was exaggerated. In a moment of desperation, Maddy crashes Payal’s wedding, confronting Ricky and instigating a fight, only to be halted by a fierce slap from Payal. Feeling unconvinced yet again, Maddy is informed by his sister about the life-threatening illness that had plagued Payal since the day his mother passed away. Payal, wishing to spare Maddy more pain, had fabricated the circumstances surrounding their breakup, intending for him to move forward without her.

Determined to be with Payal during her remaining days, Maddy tracks her down once more and proposes marriage. He promises to stand by her side through her chemotherapy, ultimately ushering her into the next life while cradling her in his arms. Their journey, defined by love, loss, and sacrifice, encapsulates the bittersweet reality of their tumultuous relationship.
