Kamla Ki Maut

Kamla, a 20-year-old unmarried woman living in a Mumbai chawl, learns she is pregnant. The news shatters her and she feels there is no future worth living. She ultimately commits suicide, and her death sends shockwaves through the building as neighbors confront their own secrets.

The neighbors in the chawl begin to reflect on their own past choices and hidden secrets. Kamla's tragedy becomes a mirror for the lives they have kept private. The community's sense of normalcy cracks as truths surface.

Sudhakar and Nirmala realize that Kamla's premarital pregnancy was the crisis behind her suicide. This triggers flashbacks to their own younger days and the mistakes they made. The couple begins to confront the consequences of those choices.

As a teenager, Nirmala falls for her married tutor who shows no interest in a relationship with a student. The tutor rejects her, leaving her with unspoken longing. This early rejection plants a seed of secrecy that haunts her later life.

After a suicide attempt, Nirmala's mother confronts her about the truth, and the family quickly decides to fix her marriage to Sudhakar. The arrangement marks the start of a life built on unspoken stories. Nirmala accepts the match in the name of family honor.

In his youth, Sudhakar falls for Anju and they become involved, resulting in Anju's pregnancy. He convinces her to abort the child, and then he disappears from her life. He later relocates to a new place in search of a fresh start.

Sudhakar relocates and finds Chameli in a village. They are caught in the act, and the villagers insist he marry Chameli. He initially agrees but backs off when Chameli's aggressive fiancé and threats become an obstacle, and he disappears again.

Sudhakar takes a new job in another city and befriends Prakash and his wife Lakshmi. They share good times together, and Sudhakar grows closer to Lakshmi while Prakash is away on business. The friendship deepens despite their innocent surface.

One night Prakash returns and catches Sudhakar at Lakshmi's house in a compromising state. Prakash beats Sudhakar and the friendship fractures under the strain of the discovery. The incident marks a turning point in Sudhakar's life.

Years later, Sudhakar marries Nirmala and the couple raises two daughters, Geeta and Charu. The family settles into life in the Mumbai area, carrying the weight of past mistakes. The daughters study alongside Kamla's circle, unknowingly living amid those memories.

Sudhakar visits his village with his family and discovers that Anju has also married and has children. They meet again as long-lost friends, sharing memories of the past. The encounter underscores how differently lives can unfold from a single moment.

In the present, Sudhakar and Nirmala discuss Anju's pregnancy history and Kamla's suicide. They conclude that Kamla's tragedy was not premarital pregnancy but the choice to end her life. The conversation reinforces the film's message about the consequences of secrets and the cost of judgment.
