In the summer of 1959, Ip Man lived a tranquil life in Hong Kong, dedicated to practicing Wing Chun. With his elder son off studying in Foshan, he focused on caring for his younger son and maintaining domestic harmony with his wife, Cheung Wing-sing.

Bruce Lee made an unexpected visit to Ip Man, expressing his desire to become one of his students. Ip was taken aback by Lee's speed in demonstrating his skills but chose not to officially accept him, instead subtly guiding Lee towards the exit.

Ip Ching found himself embroiled in a confrontation with a classmate, Cheung Fong, leading their teacher, Miss Wong, to invite both families for a discussion. This meeting included a dinner invitation for Fong, showcasing a budding friendship that began to blossom.

During the dinner, Cheung Fong displayed a developing understanding of Wing Chun, sparking a conversation about martial arts. He revealed that his father, Cheung Tin-chi, would soon pick him up, setting the stage for future tensions.
