Officer Yeo Kyung-jin, Jun Ji-hyun, is a driven young police officer in Seoul who chases a purse snatcher and ends up arresting Ko Myung-woo, a physics teacher from an all-girls school who was actually pursuing the thief. The unexpected twist of fate pairs Kyung-jin with Myung-woo as her escort through a perilous district, and the assignment grows even more complicated when she interrupts a meeting between the Russian Mafia and a Korean gang. With Myung-woo handcuffed to her, Kyung-jin winds up singularly maneuvering through danger, and she unintentionally sparks gunfire between rival factions—an upheaval that she barely manages to keep from spiraling further out of control, helped along by a few lucky missteps on her part.

The first half of the film largely follows Ko Myung-woo, Jang Hyuk, as his point of view frames a slowly blooming attraction between the two leads. The pair’s growing bond reaches a serenely intimate moment during a countryside trip when Myung-woo opens up about his desire for life after death: he would come back to earth as the wind. > If I were ever to die, I would come back to earth as the wind. Soon after, a freak automobile accident nearly takes his life, and Kyung-jin’s quick rescue keeps him in the living world.

But the story takes a sharp tonal turn in the second half as Myung-woo is accidentally shot and killed by another officer, an event Kyung-jin interprets as her own shooting fault. This misluck shatters her, sending her into a deep depression and risking self-destruction—she even attempts suicide, only to be saved by a giant balloon that appears under her when she falls. As the days pass, Myung-woo’s presence returns as wind and in intermittent dreams, delivering messages that rekindle Kyung-jin’s will to live and to search for a meaning beyond grief.

The narrative then mirrors a ghostly, wind-driven romance, echoing themes familiar to audiences of sentimental fantasies. Myung-woo’s ethereal whispers accompany Kyung-jin as she navigates the aftermath of trauma, and the two share one final, quiet gesture of love before he moves on to the afterlife. In the restaurant and police station, a book and a photo—left behind by Myung-woo during their first countryside moment—reappear, confirming that his spirit has remained close. The photo hints that Kyung-jin was not far from the truth about his presence all along, and when she reaches the train station, she is saved by The Guy, a moment that reveals the living and the otherworldly are bound by a shared soul. The film closes with Kyung-jin’s whispered conviction that Myung-woo’s essence is forever near, as if he has always been beside her, carried inside a memory in a book she will treasure.
